@clarity speaking as a never-will-be-recovering Rimworld addict, i found that editing the start scenario to add in tons of pre-researched tech helped me eradicate that "from scratch" aspect.

these days i comfort myself by watching scenes from movies and TV shows in which characters are kind to someone with no expectation of reciprocal kindness. i bawl every time.
