@BeAware In the conversation on the hypothetical so far, we've determined people have somehow become not-assholes, so I'm thinking we're talking the far, far, FAR future. We can imagine considerable advancements have been made.

To your official diagnosis is like self-diagnosis I'd even add: but worse because it's typically done by people with no real understanding of autism, with poorly formed questions, and even if successful now you're on a list that may lead to more harm than good.
I also like the point: official diagnoses are often invalid.
I'll bet the count of invalid official diagnoses is far higher than invalid self-diagnoses among autistic people.

Supermarkets, and malls, are designed to be confusing, stressful and create sensory overwhelm to just the right degree for NTs that they comfort themselves by buying stuff.
It takes NTs right to the upper limit of their tolerance, which then for us is automatically over it, and is why autistic kids especially get meltdowns.
It's all on purpose.
