Supermarkets, and malls, are designed to be confusing, stressful and create sensory overwhelm to just the right degree for NTs that they comfort themselves by buying stuff.
It takes NTs right to the upper limit of their tolerance, which then for us is automatically over it, and is why autistic kids especially get meltdowns.
It's all on purpose.
