     @MediaActivist So well put! I agree with you completely.

     To your official diagnosis is like self-diagnosis I'd even add: but worse because it's typically done by people with no real understanding of autism, with poorly formed questions, and even if successful now you're on a list that may lead to more harm than good.

     I also like the point: official diagnoses are often invalid.

     I'll bet the count of invalid official diagnoses is far higher than invalid self-diagnoses among autistic people.
