@beadsland I've found, the ignorant and myopic are invariably full of surety about things, whereas the more intelligent, introspective, open minded souls are beset with doubt. Living with a healthy amount of doubt is only to be encouraged.
@beadsland I agree, educational achievement is invariably regarded as being the same as "intelligence", utterly unhelpfully. There are simply so many forms of intelligence, from emotional intelligence through to artistic, and the ability to soak up information and regurgitate it onto a university exam paper is, well, myopic, to use that word again
@davidho Israel has from the outset of this genocide sought to reframe things in its favour, which as we've seen they've actually done quite successfully. They've normalised to an extent, in some important senses, the very concept of genocide
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious@CloudyMrs@Roadwarrior29 I encountered an avid Rangers supporter a while back who said he literally hated Nicola Sturgeon. I tried to ascertain why he despised her on such a visceral level, but all he could muster were the usual, lazy mainstream media talking points. I even pointed out the good things the SNP had done, and he grudgingly acknowledged that, yes, they had some good policies, but that he still hated them as a party
Millions of sardines wash up on beach in Philippines. They've turned the entire beach sit silver. The likely cause is an oceanographic phenomenon known as "upwelling", in which nutrients from the deep sea rise to shallow coastal waters, triggering blooms of plankton. The sardines, which feed on plankton, likely followed the blooms into the shallows and got "trapped" making it more likely for them to beach themselves
I keep thinking of this quote with regard to some of the main players on the international stage presently, politicians and oligarchs alike #fascism#revolution
@HeavenlyPossum This thread was excellent and I agree with many of your points. I am, I fear, one of those misanthropes to which you refer, however. Such an outlook was borne of my consistently negative experiences of people. I do maintain a glimmer of hope that people aren't as bad as all that though
@ChrisMayLA6 Supposing, hypothetically, some malignant force were to have deliberately set up an industry or organisation solely dedicated to the clandestine, insidious elimination of all life on Earth, then one really couldn't do a much better job than the fossil fuel industry. It is destroying the bioshpere and has to boot captured political life around the globe to faciliate this goal
@AnarchoNinaWrites Great thread. I agree with everything you said. It's revolution or perish at this point, the choice is that binary. The elites have been at war with the rest of us for decades, just most people aren't actually aware they're at war and so are complacent and apathetic
@samuteki That reminds me of Martin Luther King's Letter from Birmingham Jail. This, exceedingly thin, veneer of "niceness" that is expected from those at the bottom of the pile, and which the middle class liberals insist upon, hides a deeper malaise, a societal ugliness even, that ensures the oppressed stay in their place
Vegan. Autistic. OCD. Anarchist. Communist. Transfemme. Demisexual. Meh.Avatar: A black and white picture of Katharine Hepburn starring in the 1936 movie "Mary of Scotland".Background: A painting called "The Great Day of His Wrath" by John Martin, which depicts an "end of the world" scene, featuring what appears to be two pieces of land being torn apart. In the gulf between the land there's a black abyss in the bottom half leading up to fire and magma.
