I hope that when I reset it I can set up the damn thing WITHOUT Bitlocker, jeez.

I found so many Reddits with angry betrayed users hating on #Bitlocker as much as I have been tonight.

I did get an external drive last autumn, thank GOODNESS, though there are some things that will just be lost.

Like this giant year-long document-scanning catch-up project I'm in the middle of was way behind on backups so YAY. I'm no longer in the middle of it. Now back near the beginning. 😑

It has taken me eight hours just to start coming to terms with this ridiculous event. Maybe now I can go to bed.

Okay. So. I have gone through the stages of grief. I have maybe one more box to winnow through just in case that 2015 printout is in there (I doubt it!)

I am emotionally almost ready to get this computer back out and reset it. Wipe it entirely.

Start over from the ground up ...and WITHOUT Windows. :blobcatsurprised:

I am going to need something the Fediverse has aplenty... SUGGESTIONS and GUIDANCE!

I wish there was a way to link to the clip here. But I'll just tell you that Luke Sampe, a Green Bay Wisconsin meteorologist, posted a clip today of the station answering machine.

There was a message from a viewer complaining that sometimes the #weather does not turn out exactly as predicted, then he segued into accusations that meteorologists are hiding "weather-control" airplane chemtrails "for a paycheck and a pension," and FINALLY, threatening that #meteorologists will hang as traitors. 🤦🏻♀️

Going to start pronouncing "unstable" as though it rhymes with "constable"

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the hateful attitude and behaviors of right-wingers are NOT a mental illness. It is a SOCIAL ILL.

The important thing to take from this is you can't effectively intervene with systemic issues at the individual level.

Social ills require social-systemic interventions. Individual interventions are not effective against social ills.

Also from twenty-plus years of practice I can tell you it's the individuals who are harmed by discriminatory / oppressive behaviors who seek treatment, not the perpetrators.

Also while any individual bigot or misogynist may have specific mental health issues, so do those who are not bigoted or misogynist.

Plenty of people who would check out fine on a standardized assessment are bigots or misogynists. And plenty of people with all kinds of mental illnesses, injuries, and disabilities are non-hateful. (And victimized by bigots.)

Mental illness doesn't cause this kind of hate. It's a socially learned behavior arising from systemic values.

I'd much rather share a camping tent with any number of mentally ill people who were not bigots, than someone leaning towards hate group status.

This is why if you have a neighbor, coworker, family member who is insistent on red-hat propagandizing, but seems "otherwise normal," they ARE.

But they have gone increasingly far down a SOCIALLY reinforced path of wacky and harmful irrationality.

The danger of labeling this membership a sign of "mental illness," is we will be unprepared for many "normal" and "nice" people we know to support and even engage in hateful and violent acts.

THIS is what is meant by the "banality of evil."

The conspiracy I'm seeing ALL over the magaverse right now is how Hurricane Helene was intentionally "steered," and that this was done in order to displace residents, and that was done...in order to secure lithium mines for cheap. 😐

I guess the cost of controlling the weather must be a lot less expensive than I thought, in that case!

It drives me bonkers how pieces of reality will be woven into these theories.

For instance, I do think when all is said and done and the lost lives are counted, and the businesses and homes destroyed are noted, that this will have been a massive, MASSIVE disaster. Much worse than expected. And much worse than what we are seeing piecemeal, as bad as it already is. I think the lost will be discovered for years to come.

BUT. This is not because it was "planned"! It was an unprepared populace.

The disinformation now is about #FEMA, geez it is wild stuff. How they're confiscating money and donations, threatening to arrest or shoot people, stopping people from rescuing others, and so forth. There is an enormous writhing PIT of disinformation in this vein now.
Entire Republican politicians have had to make public statements asking people to knock it off because it's hampering rescue and aid efforts. Yet the disinformation campaign continues.
