     Okay. So. I have gone through the stages of grief. I have maybe one more box to winnow through just in case that 2015 printout is in there (I doubt it!)

     I am emotionally almost ready to get this computer back out and reset it. Wipe it entirely.

     Start over from the ground up ...and WITHOUT Windows. :blobcatsurprised:

     I am going to need something the Fediverse has aplenty... SUGGESTIONS and GUIDANCE!

     I may try to start it this weekend.

     It has taken me eight hours just to start coming to terms with this ridiculous event. Maybe now I can go to bed.

     I hope that when I reset it I can set up the damn thing WITHOUT Bitlocker, jeez.

     I found so many Reddits with angry betrayed users hating on #Bitlocker as much as I have been tonight.

     I did get an external drive last autumn, thank GOODNESS, though there are some things that will just be lost.

     Like this giant year-long document-scanning catch-up project I'm in the middle of was way behind on backups so YAY. I'm no longer in the middle of it. Now back near the beginning. 😑

     I did the same thing with my 8 year old computer. Then the keyboard died (unrelated) and I decided it was time for a new one. I made a partition for Linux, but my USB stick wouldn't boot because of Secure Boot and bitlocker. Plus I found some stuff that says my trackpad probably won't work.

     I'll get back to it, I haven't given up, but it's not quite seamless yet to set up dual-boot. 😥

     It has to be EASY! Relatively speaking. I'm tech-minded but ignorant.

     In recent past I've seen people say there are some user-friendly setups of Linux these days and that sounds interesting.

     But you must understand, in practical terms I don't even know how to start. I don't know how to wipe and reset my computer.

     I'll look up each individual step (which is what I usually do), but it could take weeks.

     It's like trying to cook an elaborate recipe when you have to look up what a "teaspoon" is.
