@chiffchaff @sparrowsion @lnr @goatsarah One problem with the term BIPOC over here is that the people yelling about the rights of British "Indigenous" people aren't quite in the same part of the political spectrum.

It's 2030 -- the vast majority of Free software is being surreptitiously maintained by intelligence agencies, quietly and efficiently adding unglamorous features and maintenance while biding their time for an opportunity to deploy an undetectable backdoor.

They're all aware that other agencies are doing the same, so put significant effort into guarding against those attacks.

As a result, we are in a golden age of robust, secure, publicly funded free software...

@goatsarah I got a DS1019+ (in 2019) to replace my Drobo 5N. It's Just Worked since, but I'm not doing anything very complicated with it.

Looks like the closest current model is the DS1522+ (although that's 2022 hardware).

I like that the storage is just a pile of Linux and can be recovered on any PC.

I tried using it as a general Linux server, it's doable but the OS is a bit too opinionated to make that pleasant. Now it's just NFS mounted to a separate Debian box, as well as CIFS shares.

@goatsarah e-Pedal - not really. It's got strong regen braking but not full single-pedal driving. When I test drove it, I hadn't used e-Pedal, but after a couple of weeks of use I can see why it'd be something that you'd really miss.

ProPilot - it has adaptive cruise control, lane keeping and blind spot warning. I think that covers the functionality I know of. Anything else?

@goatsarah The new Renault Megane EV seems to be the closest to "Leaf, but newer". It has real buttons.

Upgraded from a 2016 Mk1 Leaf (after doing 70k miles in that) to a 2020 Mk2 Leaf about 2 weeks ago, test drove the Megane and might well have gone for it, but needed something without a trashed battery ASAP so went 2nd hand.

Already had a chance to regret the lack of both CCS and 22kW A/C charging...

@goatsarah Thinking about it for five microseconds... there's a lot of expensive retail space being used for that purpose in many airports, so I assume they do it because it sells enough luggage to make money. If there was a better use for the space, they'd sell something else.

I don't know _why_ it works, but unless they're all money-laundering fronts, I have to assume that it does.

@ajlanes @goatsarah @beforewisdom @bodhipaksa @LizEllisPhD we went guising in NE Scotland in the 80s, sort of like trick or treat, but you did a little party piece (tell a joke, sing a song) in return for the treats.
