I've met adults who thought the greater than and less than symbols meant the opposite of what they mean because nobody ever told them about the alligator

@mischievoustomato @skylar any kind of volunteer survey introduces heavy selection bias, amplified here because only people within maybe two degrees of aella's audience would hear about it at all

python is kind of an interesting language because the design philosophy is insanely retarded but they accidentally made a language that's still very useful

@hazlin it's not any one thing but the ecosystem is why a lot of people use it
if I had to articulate why I keep reaching for python I would say it's the iteration speed and the fact that most of the things I want to do are easy to do with either built in functionality or the standard library
even if I'm going to ultimately implement something in Go or C it's still useful to do a first pass in python to check my logic a lot of the time
contrary to what a lot of people say I don't find python syntax to be uniquely easy to use. it's certainly not "plain english". it's just another language with plenty of quirks. as things get more "pythonic" the syntax can become very opaque very quickly

you know you live in a highly developed first world country when your citizens have to compare every action against the cost of energy to do it
I was going to grab a drink from the fridge but oooh I dunno, electricity is expensive right now and I'd rather not let any cold air out

@skylar @djsumdog if nobody goes to the sites because AI just serves up the answers, then the sites they scraped from will cease to exist, and the free lunch everyone has been enjoying for 32 years will end permanently
that's clearly where we're going. right back to expensive ass books

@skylar @mischievoustomato did anyone ever make it so you can run the models on cheap old workstation cards with lots of VRAM
I see the 24GB P40 has gone way up in price on ebay since I was last looking (like 2 years ago)
