I'll be the first to admit of countless times I outright lied about obligations I didn't really have so I could get out of uncomfortable social situations, or coming up with sometimes elaborate excuses to explain why I couldn't do something I was expected to do.
Now I know better, but (white) lies were the fabric of my masking.
