Yesterday I promised a thread on producer tags in #kpop songs, so I'm going to make this post and dump a ton of links in the replies so I can set them unlisted and hopefully make this less spammy possibly.
So what are producer tags? They are a small audio clip that a producer will tuck into the song, usually near the beginning. It's sort of like an artist adding their signature to a painting. Some producers do it, some don't.
Below are some examples. Feel free to ask questions in replies.
@cinderdazzle612 I've thought about doing a theme week of the songs with the producer tags at the beginning (like the whispered "JYP" at the start of all the songs he produced). There's also something to be said about the unique company intros at the start of a lot of kpop mvs.
@cinderdazzle612 Oh, this is a whole fun tangent in kpop. Since there's so many producers that produce for lots of groups, they create little sound tags that they add to the beginning of songs "I need a Cha Cha beat boy" from Cha Cha Malone or "Woogie on and on" from Woogie. It's a way for fans to know they are behind the song even when it comes from other artists at different companies. Lemme collect a bunch of examples and maybe I'll do a whole spam posting of them tomorrow or something.
@youronlyone That dance move has been around a lot longer than last year. I was watching Melbourne shuffle compilation videos 15+ years ago where kids were doing those same steps as part of their shuffle routines.
Jubi probably didn't know about it when he made his dance challenge because shuffling comes out of a pretty specific subculture that existed before tiktok and what not so I'm not faulting him for taking credit for the challenge. Just clarifying that the move has been around longer.
