@BeAware yeah that's pretty annoying, admins either love the freedom of the fediverse versus X or anything like that, but then others want to censor everything that they disagree with even slightly, going in the opposite direction. I can't imagine how many block lists I'm on lol
@BeAware lol there was a server I was on a while ago where me and a neighboring town were at war, I'd use waifu map art as propaganda posters :pedro: the process was tedious but the memes lived forever on that server.
@BeAware to play devil's advocate a little bit, I am assuming funding from the .social largely or partially goes to development of the platform, in which case it is good for that reason because I want it to continue to improve, but they could still be a little more clear on how the Fediverse works for transparency sake. I think people would still naturally gravitate towards the biggest instance in hopes of having the most publicity.
@BeAware I think a big part of the problem as you mentioned before I think is the fact that the Mastodon app doesn't clarify enough that the Fediverse isn't JUST Mastodon, the trouble of having a flagship instance named after the software itself I guess. I am forever grateful that the software exists, I just wish it was more like Discord in the sense of "here is the software, go find servers you like, make friends, have fun!"
@BeAware agreed, I made the mistake of running a relay a while ago because I thought it would be nice to boost the activity just a little bit at least temporarily, and for the week I ran it my storage bill that month jumped to about $50. Whoever is calling for this runs their instance on a local server most likely lol
@BeAware I've liked it so far, thanks for sharing it, I set mine up right away and the devs have been great about implementing my feedback as it was launching.
@BeAware It certainly could be private, but I love the fact that my data isn't being harvested by the platform itself. One time I made a new Facebook account under a fake name to handle so I could use the marketplace and look for cars or something, Facebook suspended my account with a message saying "We have determined that you are using a fake name" and boom, gone without appeal. How they figured that out? No clue, but the point of that platform is to sell YOUR data, not your fake data lol
@BeAware so Civitai has flux on their online generator, great place to start! Otherwise I sometimes run Flux on the AIpub discord server for people to test out. I haven't recently due to a lot of work and it cooking my office to a crisp lol
@BeAware I used to really rely on Reddit for programming help, but now with GPT and Github Copilot I rarely ever find myself there anymore. Who needs 'em! :pedro:
@BeAware I was a traditional artist for nearly 20 years, a very passionate one, and I still believe AI art has changed my life creatively and professionally for the better. I wish more traditional artists would pick it up, the stuff they could make with their existing skills would be next level. :pedro:
@BeAware that might actually be very simple to do! Send me a DM with some specific examples you have and I can probably cook you up a bot that handles it. Helps to have friends test these things out!
@BeAware Yeah I'm still trying to figure out discoverability myself, but I am working on a project for content moderation, specifically aimed at cleaning out illegal images that will of course be open source. I am looking to build upon my project so if there are any specific moderation points you have in mind I am open to ideas!
