Success! Arts Centre is open. I spent some lovely, reflective time enjoying Hiroe Swen’s work. Very likely the last in Canberra. There’s one more exhibition in Melbourne, then she’s returning to Japan. I took many photos, will try to distill.

Lifetime annuity. “Retirees should be offered a lifetime pension from the federal government, drawn from their savings.” Why do I feel so suspicious of this concept, especially in the hands of either of our two major parties. Is either of them visionary? Ethical? Unswayed by outside influences? Is either of them honest and transparent?

4th January! A reminder note tells me I travelled to the US on this date, 30 years ago. Hadn’t been before. San Francisco airport, was held up by an official, because visa wasn’t right. Would I be sent straight home? No, but he used this as a training exercise for new recruits. Arrived in Philly, 7am, no-one was expecting me, as they assumed I’d get the date wrong. Happy to say, it got much better after that.

@troberts You are brave, in a similar situation, I had to be sedated in hospital.

I’ve mentioned this recipe book before. Made “Apricot Fiesta.” Dried apricots, tapioca pearls, sherry, sugar, water. Soaked all day, it’s placed in oven overnight, low temperature, 80 degrees. It’s turned out beautifully, except temp wasn’t enough to burn off alcohol. After eating some at breakfast, I feel like I’ve had a glass of wine.

Saw a CALMS locum doctor at North Canberra Hospital. Same doc who diagnosed my penicillin allergy in 2010, and recognised me as “penicillin patient” in 2019. He has entirely different view on Bad Toe, it needs to dry out and be allowed to heal. It’s non-interventionist, so am going with that for the time being. Hey! He’s my penicillin diagnosing doc!

Social media ban for under 16’s. Both the Human Rights Commission and the Australian Government Department of Social Services list the right of children to have a say in decisions which affect them. Seems a mighty big aspect which has been ignored in this rushed decision.
