If you self-host services on the internet, you may have seen waves of crawlers hammering your websites without mercy.
To annoy them and protect my services from DDoS, I decided to setup an iocaine instance, along with NSoE... And it worked... Too well.
Recently, they started flooding my VPS so much it started choking.
If you followed me here on Fedi, you saw my journey to find a way to relieve my server.
This is a rant about LLM crawlers, and some observations & conclusions, along with some techniques to help you protect your own services.
Read it here: https://xaselgio.net/posts/26.poisoning-knowledge/
Fedizens who self-host services, do you:
I'm also interested if you have multiple subdomains protected by iocaine and notice one in particular gets hit.

Imagine being a plushie :neosoblow_sad:
I love the word "Tromblon", it is loaded with as a much explosive energy as the item it describes
Stunning: SNCFConnect works on reinforced-protection Vivaldi but not on vanilla unprotected Firefox
Happy Cloudflare down for those who celebrate!
What are you using to poison the art you publish against AIGen?
Is Glaze still the solution to go or is there something better nowadays?
(Bonus point if it works on Linux, because Glaze doesn't have a Linux version).

OH: "And the backups?...
That's right! It goes into dev-null!"

About that AWS thing.
I remember that nearly all examples of AWS API usage use us-east-1 as a DC.
Seeing services break in other regions (here in Europe), should we interpret this as folks who didn't change the default DC and are hosting everything in the US? :blob_fucking_weird_cat:
@ryanc Bad Apple over Telnet
(they did that for Star Wars ep IV: telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl)
Good heavens, would you look at the date?
I got my cards from @1 !!!

@itsOasus Mmh, and now it works :dragn_sweats:
Sorry :dragn_sweats:
@itsOasus That's a dead link for me? It redirects to the main page
@whitequark How did they fail so miserably to have a UX worse than CMake?!!
I won't even mention telegram channels on which they post an art, and then you look at the source, and the source has some slight differences (shading, different shapes of ears, more patterns on the body...)...
Either they took an old version (happens, but I don't know if you can update artworks on sites like FA for example), either they took a picture of a WIP and posted it before the actual art got published, either they took the WIP image and used whatever AIgen they found to "finish" the art.
The latter already happened several time...
Me: Oh, nice, that Telegram channel puts sources along with arts~
The channel: "actually, we only put sources of SFW variants, even if we only post NSFW ones~"
