It's a tool. Working for Meta doesn't mean, everything you do can be smeared.

When I said "to organize", obviously I meant lists. Despite the lack of features there is still plenty that people can be made aware of.

Moreover, how many lists can you really manage and users per lists make sense? When you follow several thousands or even just over 500, it's already hard not to not miss a lot of posts.

The goal is to interact, otherwise you can just sub the RSS feed.

    https://followgraph.vercel.app/
    is missing.

Actually, at this stage it's more important to inform people (how) to properly organize or even reduce their follows.

After all, you can only read so much, and the more users you follow

    * the more posts you will miss out on

    * the more infrequent posters will be forgotten

    * the less you respond as well

    That's muting, not blocking.

Blocking prevents them from seeing or interacting with your content So, yeah, you're censoring in a way. Not knowing this is a red flag.

More importantly, If you don't constantly challenge your views with actual interaction (not just reading), you will become trapped in a bubble.

I certainly don't need to explain why I block anyone, but when I'm the one with a ridiculous point of view, blocking out dissent won't change that.

I think, I made it pretty clear that I have no issue if people encouraging block or mute such users.

My disagreement is with what you can summarize as overly broad and in my opinion harmful encouragement to block whoever displeases or irritates you.

This isn't about access control as @DeliaChristina, for instance, seems to think, but the justifications for it some promote.

Blocking men is sexist but with a rational purpose, it can also be constructive for all parties.

    @kravietz

    Please, read my posts properly.

I've already explained it in multiple ways that I'm not defending toxic, unconstructive or off-topic posts.

I'm saying it has become popular to recommend to block people w/o further reflection. As if being publicly obstinate or even dogmatic is something inspiring.

If someone doesn't want to deal w/ interjections or disapproval, advise to move on instead.

If you wish to stay in a bubble, write to followers only.

The certificate of the TOR address is for bocholt.social. What happened? Was the server compromised? Anyone trying to run a MITM?

That is sophistry. Running a neutral communication platform and solely enforcing actual rule violations is in no way the same as actively enabling such content or people.

Not to mention that blocking all communication and account transfers for a whole instance with hundreds or thousands of users because of what is in most cases merely a small minority or even just a handful of people only harms the fediverse.

Picks and thoughts on current affairs, tech, and some random stuff I came across.“When there are rational grounds for an opinion, people are content to set them forth and wait for them to operate. In such cases, people do not hold their opinions with passion; they hold them calmly, and set forth their reasons quietly.” ― Bertrand Russell (1961)#nobot #nosearch
