Just finished watching the first season of “Joy of Life” 🌸 It was good but it did take me a long time to finish. Firstly, the acting performances are stellar and there are so many different actors who are remarkable in the drama. The plot is also good but also quite complicated so it was a little difficult to stay focused hence not a show that can be binged. I will take a break before heading into season 2, but will definitely watch it.

@liztai Are they still using the style, where the men wear wide belts? That style makes even the thinnest of actors look a little dumpy 😄

The characters are beginning to coalesce into patterns now but I’m still not sure where it’s all heading. I’m enjoying the acting, though…

It will take some time before I make it to season 2 so it might have finished airing by the time I get to it…

Just beginning to watch season 1 of “Joy of Life” 🌸 It is still laying the foundations of the drama but there is already a sense of foreboding. Zhang Ruoyun has a very charismatic presence - slightly goofy but clever.

Ting Meishi has a brooding, underplayed aspect that complements Zhang Ruoyun’s more mercurial character.

@AnnaAnthro That sounds promising! I actually watched The Next Generation as a teenager… It was broadcast at 8 pm on Sundays. My best memory was that my parents came home from the supermarket … with a tiny puppy that they had picked up from boys who were selling them for a few dollars outside of Shoprite. Tiny was my best friend as a teenager!

Just finishing episode 5 of “Joy of Life” 🌸 The drama feels very different from more standard Cdramas. Difficult to pinpoint exactly why. Perhaps it is because it allows its characters to be flawed?

Wang Yang as the assassin with a backstory who turns into a helper has great charisma. Nice to see actors who are not extremely young, being given meaty roles to play.

Have just begun watching “The Spirealm” with Huang Junjie and Xia Zhiguang 🌸 It’s not my usual genre, but since it is perhaps a Chinese BL or danmei, it is rather remarkable that is is airing at all. The idea is that people are drawn into a computer game where they can die in the real world if they die in the game. There is suspense and a delicate chemistry between the leads.
