@liztai You inspired me to have a look at my 2023 in dramas 🌸 Mine are quite different from yours 😄 Actually, almost the reverse. Except for Mysterious Lotus Casebook, my highest rated dramas are all romances.

@AnnaAnthro @liztai How about the classic Eternal Love with Mark Chao?
@liztai I agree with you entirely. The extremely high ratings make zero sense. It is a good drama, nicely done, and remarkable that they got away with the time travel theme despite previous censorship on this topic. The plot is probably what makes this drama special.
The ensemble of actors do well together and the drama zips along nicely. It is impressive that they could pull this together, but how it scores higher than e.g. Mysterious Lotus Casebook is a mystery.
@AnnaAnthro @liztai That's interesting. I remember the Xu Kai drama. It was much more high budget than this one although the main couple didn't quite work for me in that drama either. The drama looked good, though...
Have just finished watching episode 10 of "An Ancient Love Song" 🌸 Zhang Ya Qin is very good as the female lead and the plot is cleverly woven. It feels like an ensemble piece because they all make the characters come alive. There's love between the main couple but not so much chemistry.
I definitely understand why the drama has become popular, but I must admit that I don't quite understand why it was more popular than "Mysterious Lotus Casebook".
Just finished watching a short drama, "Governor's Secret Love" with Deng Kai and Jin Zixuan 🌸 It is a fairly good, lightweight drama and the male lead is especially good despite the limited plot & character development. It is a fake eunuch love story.
These short dramas are often good vehicles for testing out the star power of up and coming actors. "A Familiar Stranger" does the same for Cheng Lei.
Just finished reading volume 4 of "Heaven Official's Blessing" 🌸 It's nice to follow the relationship between Xia Lian and Hua Cheng slowly evolve but in this volume it takes a backseat to many flashbacks and adventures along the way to Mount Tonglu. This series is a very slow burn romance but also a satisfying read.
Haven't been able to decide which drama to watch next. I have the sense that some really good #Cdramas will drop soon and for some reason, I haven't quite been feeling the dramas I tried to start.
So now I'm trying a #Kdrama, "My Dearest" 🌸
Has anyone watched it? Does it live up to the hype?

@Hanktank Thank you for giving me a quick encouragement to keep going.
Although I'm ethnically Korean, I mostly feel alienated from Korean culture. It sounds as if this drama will enable to some insight into my roots.
I usually prefer #Cdrama because it allows me to be Asian but with an excuse for why I don't quite understand the cultural references 😄
@Hanktank That goes to show that love of Asian culture is born of many other things than DNA.
Like you I grew up on a diet of American / British / European films but during the pandemic discovered my love of Asian, especially #Cdrama.
I exist in the odd limbo of looking Asian but not really being Korean at all. However, I'm not completely European either.
