Am watching episode 5 of “A Journey to Love” 🌸 The scene where Ren Ruyi casually mentions that Ning Yuanzhou is the perfect candidate to be the father of her future child is hilarious. They hardly know each other but she has already decided 😄 The choice isn’t a bad one, but perhaps one that should be a mutual choice 😄😄

@liztai We agree! I didn’t like him at first but from the middle of the drama, his character has developed in a very satisfying direction. Quite like that Zhu Junlin has a look that is not standard; that alone brings his character to life, because he has the villain look but is more than this surface apearance.

Watching episode 26 of “Blossom” 🌸 This third couple is showing a lot of promise. Not entirely sure who exactly she is - perhaps Dou Zhao’s cousin? Zhu Junlin has been smouldering on screen as Chen Jia in his brief appearances so far …

Decided that “Blossom” would be my next drama to watch. Had heard good things about it 🌸 The drama‘s opening is gripping. Within the first 10 minutes the protagonist is presented as a powerful but understated character, fighting for revenge. The cinematography and costumes are top notch, too. Looking forward to seeing where this drama goes …

@liztai Chen Xiao is definitely very watchable 😃 He was great in “A Dream of Splendour”.

@AnnaAnthro @liztai For example, when Liu Xueyi was asked about kissing scenes and he said that at his age he wasn’t an unexperienced school boy anymore. It was said in jest but there is a level of truth to the statement that applies to emotional development as well as kissing technique 😄

@AnnaAnthro @liztai I’ve been thinking that many of the actors that I like have had an unconventional route into the industry: Liu Xueyi, Cheng Yi, Liu Yuning and perhaps William Chan.

Their acting is informed by lived experience that gives their performance more depth than people who have lived more sheltered lives.

@AnnaAnthro @liztai Good scripts and costumes are preferable 😄 Now that he was gained this level of fame there is hope that he will be offered good projects. He and his team seem to have a fairly good track record for choosing dramas. He’s not a standard traffic actor.

@liztai @Katztronaut @avradi Oh wow! We have had really similar experiences 😄 It was wasn’t a snap decision; we both seemed to have turned our backs on such films and series, because they rely too heavily on bare skin and excessive violence.

#Cdrama isn’t always good and some plots are ridiculous. Censorship is a problem and not everyone can act well, but I’m not subjected to callous exploitation of nudity and over-the-top violence on screen.

@liztai I’m so much happier in Cdrama-land. I think it was Game of Thrones that began my disenchantment with western series. It seemed like they were using graphic violence and nudity to fish for viewers rather than tell a good story. Effects need to be motivated by plot and character, not just piled on because it sells subscriptions to a streaming service.
