I'm not a huge fan of corporate algo social media stuff but can someone splain to me what the fedi `like'` or `favorite'` button does on Masto? In the (so-called) established social media-verse that option trains the AI to feed other folk in a similar cohort more of that content. What does it do here?
I'm new to Fed. Please be kind. I'm lazily reverse-engineering my vaguely conscious experience on mainstream social media platforms and realizing that this like/favorite button has been designed for over a decade to feed the 'likers' more content that will compell them to invest ever-more attention. What does it do here, exactly?
A happy side effect of this is making the poster feel good, but that has never been the goal (in the default social media space), it's always been for the benefit of the platform to hold and spread engagement. What can we do with it here in the fediverse instead? It's not a boost. It's not a follow. *What is it?*
