"AB-Centre" reported that Russia’s 2024 rye harvest was 1.166 million tonnes, a record low and over 30 per cent down from 2023. The forecast for 2025 is around 1 million tonnes. In 1990, the harvest was 16.4 million tonnes. The key causes are reduced sowing and crop shifts. Rye prices have risen by 64.6 per cent year over year. Flour and bread prices have also increased. Alexei Plugov expects bread prices to rise by a further 10 to 15 per cent in 2026.

Konstantin Samoilov had an interesting story about the banks in Russia a few days ago. By August 2025, a mid-sized Russian bank had stopped issuing all loans, including commercial, private and state-subsidized. With interest rates too high and no reliable borrowers, even individuals with good credit stayed away. The entire banking sector, he says, is nearing collapse.

It’s truly shocking that Trump is hosting Putin in Alaska while Putin is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes. Even though the US is not an ICC member, it has supported past war crimes prosecutions and often pressures others to comply. Letting an indicted war criminal step onto US soil without arrest challenges basic principles of justice and international law. Honestly, we should probably expect nothing less from a convicted felon.

I'm sure Putin is using Kamaz as a piggy bank to fund the war. Eventually, the banks will have to write off Kamaz's debt, after which Putin will "rescue" the banks by printing more rubles.

Ukrainian farmers are true heroes, not just for stealing Russian tanks, APCs and IFVs in 2022, but for everything they have continued to do throughout the 3.5 years of war. They keep farming under constant threat of being targeted and attacked by Russian forces.
