Is there a really good primer on all the odd protocols #BBS systems use? I remember only a few of them by name and almost none of the details. I'm thinking of spinning up a #hamradio #packet node on a #raspberrypi.

Someone recently called ham radio a "protocol museum" and I'm forced to agree.

The best thing about the #Fediverse: #Mastodon, #Lemmy, etc. is that it does not care if #Reddit is down.

If an instance fails in the Fediverse, I just pick up and move to an new server. Centralization has taken us backwards. #Usenet showed us the way back in 1979!

@BeAware The problem is, in all probability, I'd be ignoring a fair number of people who just want to say hi and chat about some interest we have in common. So, it takes at least a few exchanges to sort all this out.

So, #askfedi is anyone else suspicious DMS that all follow a similar pattern?

1. Brand new account randomly DM's a few people.
2. Account has a profile photo of a reasonably attractive woman.
3. A seemingly innocuous conversation starts.
4. The new account makes casual comments about their wealth, businesses, speculative investments AT THE SAME TIME as grammar and punctuation fall off.
5. Account gets deleted a week later.

I suspect someone may be running a investment fraud scam on #Mastodon.

@ConnyDuck Good luck. I don't have any suggestions other than to try to attract attention by submitting PRs to major open source projects and, when justified, add those big names to your CV.

@thomasfuchs Is it a full recall or are they telling people to with said devices to exercise caution or use some other mask setup?

I'm not the only one who noticed, there is a bug open. I'm not sure if the #Mastodon devs care though...

@feditips I'm late to this party... would having a static site with something like Hugo instead of a WordPress-driven site have helped?

What is your favorite text-based game written in #BASIC?

Rules:

1. Any dialect of BASIC is valid.
2. "Text" can include extended characters in common use in the 8-bit era.
3. #interactiveficiton or #IF is valid, but the scope of the question is wider than that.
4. No sprites or graphical tiles.
5. Modern games that meet this criteria are valid.

Holy crap! A ton of #BASIC games rewritten in modern scripting languages, including #Perl. That's too cool.

The only downside in my mind is that the project is focused on memory safe languages. You kids and your memory safe languages.

I'd like to port some of this to #C.
