I'm not aware of any setting that would affect comments going *out* of WordPress. Especially not my own comments.

All that's coming *in* needs my approval, but that shouldn't affect what's going out.

I tested this on my free tier WordPress.com blog: comments on the WordPress side do *not* get federated. Commenters on WordPress.com and Mastodon thus cannot interact.
Suboptimal, but still better than nothing.

Unsolicited anecdote: I had to scan some documents at a friend's place lately, which on Windows meant installing a ginormous "driver" for the HP OfficeJet. When on top of that it required me to create an account first, I ditched it.

In the end it didn't take much more time to get it working on Fedora #Linux without that bloatware, so I happily took the effort.

Incredible how much #enshittification happened to HP products.
