@Gargron Thanks for all of your work.
@rootsandcalluses It only happened to me when I moved my videos from one instance to another via url.
@rootsandcalluses Yeah I've read others complain about this too. Must be a big of some sort. Hopefully they fix it soon.
Ladies and gentleman if you'll look out to the right you'll see Mastodon and in just a few seconds we'll come upon the Jon Mastodon Memorial statue that stands on its highest hill.
At this time, the flight attendants will be passing out shitposts to each one of you to read as we fly above its many instances.
Feel free to share your shitposts with other passengers.
Thank you for flying Fedi-airlines.
Look Charley Brown, at some point, you have to blame yourself for continuously trusting Lucy with that football.
I get that you hope she'll do the right thing THIS TIME but we both know she doesn't have it in her, so why keep running towards the ball?
@RickiTarr I've been thinking about this a lot recently. My daughter is 26 years old and I'm pretty sure the only things she knows about me is exactly what everyone else knows about me.
Which is barely scratching the surface.
But it's not that I haven't tried imparting my philosophy, how I see the world, what helps me get through it, why I treat others the way that I do and so on.
She just doesn't care.
And I realize, that neither did I when it came to my own parents.
Is that normal? 🤷
So I'd like to discuss something that I've been noticing on the Fedi, (Mastodon in particular), and I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing?
Boosting.
When Mastodon was smaller, boosting was seen as the life blood of the place. Having no algorithm meant that if you saw something fun or interesting, you boosted it so that others could see it as well.
And then Twitter became a dumpster fire and Mastodon had a growth spurt.
(P1)
And because less people are boosting, there's less variety in the feed.
And this is what concerns me the most.
Boosting not only brings in new ideas but it introduces you to new people to follow as well.
And if it is trully the life blood of the Fedi, what does it mean if we are intentionally bleeding ourselves?
(p4)
So boosting dropped significantly. At it's peak I remember when favorites and boosts were almost equal. There were always more favorites, but boosts were maybe 5 or 10% less.
Now it's around 50%.
If there's a post with 100 favorites, chances are high that it only has around 45 to 55 boosts.
And it's dropping. Because people have become more concerned with the assumption of the repetitiveness of boost, less people are boosting.
(p3)
And for a while, boosting became white hot. Everyone was boosting everyone else.
But then as the months went on people started noticing the same posts being boosted by multiple people popping up in their timeline.
So to avoid doing this to others, people stopped boosting popular posts as much as they used to. The assumption was that if it was already popular, then people already saw it.
But then people started to not boost posts that they thought MIGHT BECOME popular.
(p2)
Who you gonna call?
POST BOOSTERS!
If I am elected Mayor of Mastodon...
Whenever another social network starts its collapse into enshitifaction, there will be a three day moratorium for anyone who wants to talk shit about the inevitable downfall of said service.
This will allow those coming to the Fedi to get used to the place and get settled in.
Thank you for your vote.
I’m still waiting for my AI hallucination.
Is it like shrooms or acid?
I just wanted to throw out a little message to any new people coming in from BlueSky...
I'm sorry that you had to come here. I know that you had high hopes for your platform and you're feeling let down.
I just want to let you know, that this place isn't perfect either. You can be let down by instance owners, mods, etc. Even the users can let you down occasionally.
I can only hope that you find the same joy and freedom on Mastodon that I do. It's not perfect, but it's still a good place to be.
Wait, you mean #Bluesky, the great social media experiment funded by the rich is imploding?
How do people start their days without a full charge on their phones?
Like, how do you go through your life so casually? HOW? HOW???
Attention catching sentence.
2nd sentence is separated from first to show importance. Problem is revealed.
Third part displays multiple sentences. This way you feel like you're being informed. But actually the problem is just being restated in a way that shows action is needed.
Last sentence as a final plea.
Reading the first chapter of the Lotus Sutra makes me wonder one thing. Who had to clean up after everyone left?
Like, is there a sect that cleans the toilets? Where exactly do enlightened beings dump out, or is it a Harry Potter wizard thing where they just shit on the floor and zap it away???
"This shit is empty of form."
Well yeah, someone had the squirts.
Gonna tell my kids that Mastodon was a federated and decentralized Onlyfans for cats.
