The fact that I'm not on the "who to follow" list shows that I am failing at my attempt to become "Mayor of Mastodon".
All I want is for every Mastodonian to feel safe, and enjoy their time here. I want them to see the true power of a federated and decentralized social network. I want them to know that there ARE people who care about the services that they use. I want them to know that "the art of the fart" isn't just a joke, but a way of life.
Just convinced my friend to donate his huge collection of DVD's to one of the public libraries in town.
Many people don't realize that there are those who can't afford the internet, which means they don't have access to all of the streaming services out there.
The library for many is their only access to an internet connection as well as entertainment. Music, movie DVD's, and of course both audio and physical copies of books.
So if you have any laying around, consider donating them.
@Gargron When are we going to get a silhouetted picture of you and your wife walking down the street with the Mastodon plushie being held between the two of you?
Today let's focus on what YOU can do to make the world around you a better place instead of waiting for some old men to do it...
Get active in your community. Donate your time and money to places that help the disadvantaged.
Create kindness throughout your day. Open a door for someone. Give a deserved compliment. Offer to help a neighbor with a chore. Help carry a load. Don't just be a kind person. Actively seek out opportunities to put kindness into action.
The fact that A.I. doesn't exist, but we call all the different types of machine learning "A.I." because it's more marketable, is a perfect representation of how humanity would rather worship a lie that sells, than a boring truth.
I've had several experiences with individuals who were faced with the brutal honesty of the end of their lives.
The impermanence of life is something that the vast majority of us pretend doesn't exist until we are forced to face it.
Watching my friend struggle with knowing that at best he might have a few more years to live, is humbling. It reminds me of the impermanence of my own life, and helps me to be more grateful for my friends and loved ones, as it does for him as well.
