   @eff great article - thank you! I think this ban should also include a ban on companies keeping persistent #profiles on us.

   It's not enough for us to have the right to request the deletion of the profile, it should be illegal to build and keep that #behaviouralprofile in the first place.

   What do you reckon?

   I’ve started to post something and deleted it at least a dozen times over the last week. I’ve read so many articles outlining people’s takes, opinions, and post-mortems, but the gnawing feeling in my gut just hasn’t gone away.

   @pluralistic has been beating the drum about enshitification for a while now, and Zitton does a really good job here pointing the finger exactly where it should be pointed.

   This is it, the social contract is broken, #enshitification was THE decisive factor in the outcome of this election.

   Used to be a time when the bottom line of a company was connected to providing value for its customers and its not just its shareholders. Now they take our money, give us garbage in return, and use the money we gave them to elect the fasch who will help them keep doing it.

   My hope is that they don’t realize that their arrogance is radicalizing people… that they are completely suprised when one day they wake up and everyone has stopped believing in them and stopped using/buying their products, people no longer covet getting a job at their companies.

   There are two words in my mind that keep coming up:

   1) Divesture

   When you have the opportunity for discretion, use it by refusing to invest in these companies with your time and money. Find alternatives if you can, or accept a sacrifice if you can afford to do it and there are no other options (also understand I don’t want or expect you throw yourself under the bus in the process).

   2) Solidarity

   This is a word I’ve heard many times in my life but I didn’t really understand what it meant until quite recently. That is by design. Solidarity is the thing that these asshats fear the most. It’s a word that can’t be appreciated fully without the context of class struggle, without the realization that we are born into a conflict between labor and capital that began long before us.

   It comes down to standing with your peers, not your oppressors. Stop believing in the lie that you can “become like them”. Recognize that hoarding wealth and status is actually evil, that by pursuing that path you are reinforcing and compounding those evils (and becoming evil yourself).

   If that’s what you really want then there is nothing I can say to change your mind and this post isn’t meant for you. Go ahead and be evil. For the rest of you, JOIN A UNION if you can. And don’t just join, get involved so that the leadership that is supposed to represent you does their job of representing instead of colluding with management.

   I'm sorry, America. I'm sorry for all of us.

   It's not fully called, but now looks inevitable. The people have indeed spoken.

   Europe will have to pull its socks up and reduce reliance on the US to save Ukraine.

   ...not that we're at all a unified block of like-minded countries either.

   And Twitter? Well, we all know what happened there, right? White supremacy found a crack and exploited it.

   Because its never, ever, enough to simply call out cartoonish forms of racism. It’s the insidious kind that always gets us.

   It thrives in environments where we falsing believe that our political ideologies exempt us from rasicm. It scans the corners of the web that willfulling ignore the absence of certain people.

   The #Fediverse is not exempt. In fact, those cracks are well established.

   One of the primary ingredients of the “Mastodon reply guy” phenomenon, one I think does not always necessarily come from a place of ill will, is a kind of online solipsism. The UIs of social media apps invite us all to think that we’re in the room with •everyone•, that •everyone• sees us, is talking to us.

   It’s a bit like the parasocial relationship of the singer who “just knows me” but has never actually met me. This design of this space makes us forget the nature of our relationships.

   I really couldn't give less of a fuck how many businesses burned during the protests. Black folks and the global south have been kindling for your fuckass imperialist economy for long enough.

   Our lives matter more than your property. If you disagree, then choke.

   I know you want Tim Walz to be the great white hope, and you want him and Kamala Harris to come and save you from fascism. You're in dreamland with that shit. Project 2025 will become project 2029 just like that. They know the Dems won't do shit about it because their corporate donors don't care if we have fascism, they're making trillions either way. And AGAIN, some of us have fascism RIGHT NOW. In labor camps NOW. Political prisoners NOW. Slavery NOW.

   As we speak, the US government is once again trying to leverage the extremist right wing politicians in their pocket to stage a coup in Venezuela. Last time Venezuela was even weaker politically and economically, so the US didn't even bother with an election, they just declared Juan Guaido the president. This time Venezuela is in a better spot, so they had to try and falsify election results and claim Maduro stole the election. This is Biden's administration, using the same playbook as the right to try and crush socialism any and everywhere. Why?? Because Venezuela has the most oil in the WORLD. And all the corporate news outlets are in on it. CNN, NBC, ABC, NY Times, Washpo, Reuters, AP, everyone. Reporting the same State Department propaganda. All of them.

   If you think these oligarchs or their bought and paid for politicians are going to save you, think again. They don't care about us.

   It's on us to save ourselves and each other. Can't say it any more plainly than that.
