@gemlog They won't listen until the line ceases to go up. Even when thousands of people said the changes they were making sucked and they were going to quit, they charged ahead with them.

I tried My Little Word Land, but it's really not fit for my purposes. It's good for vocabulary but not for grammar

@gemlog The song about Wolfenstein: The New Colossus is sadly closer to reality than that poem.

@gemlog The only reason I knew that song existed is because I like the band that wrote the music and sang the chorus.

Dan Bull wrote the lyrics and rapped the verses.

Bit ironic that a Brit and Swedes describe our situation better than some that actually live here

@gemlog You can tell when someone is about to make a mistake here because it's preceded by "Hold my beer and watch this shit"

@gemlog Which is why none are worthy on our own merits, even excluding original sin. We have all fallen short of perfection at one time or another. The important thing is to recognize our flaws and try not to repeat our mistakes

@gemlog I don't know what I'm going to do. I had a breakthrough seizure right before Christmas and I was furloughed from early October to mid November, so that's put a damper on any plans to relocate @mpjgregoire

@mpjgregoire I didn't know him personally. That was from reading the news and watching TV in the VCU student commons. They had world news on all the time because at least a quarter of the students were international students

@gemlog @mpjgregoire It's been like this since before I was born.

Dad blasted this on cassette around Christmas when we were growing up:

@gemlog Don't worry. He got in contact with someone when he woke up and he still works there. We just make sure that any holiday parties are a mid-day affair to prevent anything like that from repeating itself

@gemlog And the corporate holiday parties are bollux as well. I'm remote so I didn't bother turning up to either the department or corporate parties last Monday. My brother's office had their party at Top Golf and all he did was drink and network with vendors who were in attendance before either sleeping under his desk or getting a ride back home.

We no longer have holiday parties at the end of the day because no one (including his family) knew where someone was after he left the party that night until about 10 AM the next day. He had starting driving home drunk from the party, thought better of it, and checked into a hotel to sleep it off, but hadn't informed anyone where he was. As a result, his wife started calling coworkers in the morning hoping they knew where he was

@gemlog In hindsight I should have learned from the Sergei Federov contract negotiations back in 1997 but I was young and I only learned about it after the Redwings Stanley Cup run in 1998 from a book I picked up in Michigan.

Every pro league is like this. Hell, even the NCAA (US college sports league) is like this now that NIL (name, image, and likeness) deals are legal. Students are entering the transfer portal every year to move to a school that will pay better or give them a better chance when they go pro

@gemlog I don't know where you'd find CFL games at all on antenna TV here. I'm not paying for cable TV because then I'd transitively be paying Disney and Fox and still be getting just as many ads.

There might a Champions or Premier League game on once a week but otherwise nothing unless the Euro Cup or World Cup come along in terms of footy.

The NHL really screwed up in terms of TV coverage so I might get 2 games a week in certain parts of the year.

There are two low power stations around here that air sports pretty much around the clock but they're 50 km away and too weak to pick up

EDIT: Rights to the CFL are held by ESPN, so if they were ever aired over the air, it'd be on ABC. No way in hell that's happening

@gemlog You don't really need to watch the video. A lot of it is him complaining about all the drama that team had during the course of the season and after it ended.

I'm not sure about it only being 11 minutes though. The recordings I've seen where they go snap to whistle are closer to 30-40 minutes. If it was a constantly running clock, then the game would only be 60 minutes. 2/3 is ads or the halftime show which is usually analysts in the network studio.

The ref ball is becoming obscene now that sports betting has been embraced by the league, so I might give up on the NFL before the beginning of next season

@gemlog Time for another obscure NFL analogy!

The US is the 2018 Steelers (riddled with cancer), the rule of law is The Steeler Way (in that it doesn't apply if you're a big shot), the team coaches and front office are the US Government (completely spineless), and billionaires are the equivalent of Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell (massive egotists who always want more money and are cancerous to the organization)

For more information and incredible quantities of bile and swearing, I refer you to Days of Our Steelers 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDOgN6Q5xyo
