well at least it wasn't an RCE exploit
there's nothing quite like waking up to a CVSS 9.4 in your self-hosted software
i woke up, was feeling sleepy, eyes blurry, read the email, and then all of a sudden i was wide awake and alert
who needs coffee
is there anything more cyberpunk than paying for GIFs for your profile picture that you can only use on a proprietary messaging service owned by a company with a multi-billion valuation
about to start swimming through the air like a bugged NPC in a bethesda game
oh good. "noticeably less humid". a mere ninety five percent humidity this arvo. wonderful
i just nearly slipped on the tiles because they're slick with condensation
i love it here!!!!!!

@Polychrome
hi! :bun:
have you ever wondered why almost all computer fonts draw the lowercase A differently to how pretty much everyone writes it? the answer is simple - alan turing, inventor of the computer, had never seen the latin alphabet before and had it described to him over a phone call while he was making windows 1.0
he later tried to fix his mistake with @, but failed to recognise that there's not supposed to be a giant circle around the letter
by the time people realised that it was kind of hard to read words like "Ill" because the capital I looked like lowercase L, it was too late - the internet was already set in stone, and there was no going back
the year is 2050. GTK is still preparing the move to version 4, and has collaborated with the FBI to assassinate anyone who mentions the filepicker thumbnail bug. qt stil has an open source version, but it requires you to have create an account with a valid email address and physical address, and limits applications to only containing one window.
microsoft is still "transitioning away from winforms" to the Multiversal Windows Platform, For Real You Guys, We're Doing It Platform. iOS desktop (formerly macOS) has deprecated all system widgets in favour of the cloud. google has created an artificial intelligence to randomly create and deprecate new GUI frameworks, rendering it essentially impossible for anybody but them to create android apps with "native GUIs".
the only usable framework is electron, but everybody hates it because bloat.
as people struggle to find a desktop ui framework that hasn't been bogged down into uselessness by licensing issues or lack of features, a saviour emerges from the heavens: java swing

alright, let's give this whole social media thing another try!
last time, i got way, WAY too into it. the post that made me leave fedi in the end was someone asking if i ever enjoyed anything in response to a pointless complaint about need for speed hot pursuit's remaster on nintendo switch.
i realised, "huh, maybe i don't enjoy anything on social media". i took a step back and realised that i was trapped in the cycle of negative posts and "positive" feedback (the all mighty, dopamine inducing bloop noise)
hopefully this time is different!
apple really got on stage and gave a detailed technical explanation of this meme
in all seriousness, this presentation is really cool. it breaks down an advanced concept in an easy-to-digest manner, with really nice visualisations. you can watch the full video here:

hey everyone! :blobcatbreadpeek:
some updates on the instance: federation with outlook dot com should be fixed now, but any emails posted by them in the last three days or so will have broken attachments. sorry about that! :blobcatgoogly:
also, we've decided to defederate with yahoo dot com. you've probably heard about all the drama with yahoo finance, and yeah, we're not comfortable federating with an instance that also runs a gross neo-liberal economy blog. any yahoo emails in your inbox will be deleted within a few hours.
i know we've had a lot of server issues lately, but i'm just a 22 year old trans woman who likes linux and server hosting and is figuring out this shit as she goes. if you want to help cover gmail's infrastructure costs, you can subscribe to my onlyfans here:
you wanna create a slideshow? you use your pentium, you're gonna get about 20% slideshow. i3 7th gen pretty good gets you about 80-90%. now an i7 8th gen? that's just under 200% slideshow. imagine being able to make that much of slideshow power
