1. My husband and I are trained and ready to be Election Protectors at our polling place on November 5th. Last time, there was some voter intimidation that we reported and then it got taken care of (yay for the lawyers!). We're ready to help protect the VOTE!
2. Dinner tonight was grilled cheese with homemade tomato soup from homegrown tomatoes. Very good and very comforting.
3. The older daughter bought us an electric blanket to keep us warm at night!
Every late afternoon that the sun is out, Buddha creates a shadow on the wall opposite the window in our living room. It's there for only a moment. The ephemeral nature of its coming and going seems on point. (photos of statue and its shadow attached)
I've been taking weekly walks with a friend who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. We came across a bush of GIANT hibiscus yesterday. They grow 'em huge in Michigan. My friend's hand is right next to one of the platter-sized flowers. (photo attached)
@BlackAzizAnansi From your brain to my Michigan swing state lawn, the “STOP PROJECT 2025” sign turned out pretty good. The remaining 24 signs will be distributed to friends around the area, and hopefully it will help light a fire under complacent asses.
Here's an easy action to take: File a complaint against the Heritage Foundation, requesting the IRS revoke its nonprofit 501c(3) status. I've already downloaded the form and filled out the top half (which you can modify). All you have to do is fill out the bottom half and email it to eoclass@irs.gov. See attached form.
@BlackAzizAnansi My cousin wasn't into the yard sign idea. But he suggested an alternative--flyers. This is a guy who is largely clueless about politics. But a short summary of Project 2025 scared him into wanting to do something that didn't involve a yard sign. Here's a draft of what I came up with to leave at people's front doors. Feel free to use and share.
@BlackAzizAnansi I'm in a swing state! A quick investigation of places near me that make yard signs has a minimum order of 25 signs for $10.60 each (single sided, one color). I'm inspired to place the order and then give them to friends and neighbors--most of who probably have no idea what Project 25 is. Thanks for the idea!!
@inthehands NYTimes and WaPo are both sowing chaos with their relentless "Biden drop out" propaganda. And not one word (unless it's deeply hidden) about the convicted felon/rapist/word-salad spewing/twice impeached former guy being disastrously unsuitable to be POTUS. Makes me wonder what their game is.
@liztai I love the King of Fruits (although I call her Queen)! Understandably, hard to get in the U.S. But I did eat some excellent durian ice cream while in New York City--so not impossible.
We discovered that our recently adopted princess refuses to go outside in the rain. This hasn't been a problem because we can wait until the rain stops for a moment. But today is all rain all the time. There shall be a battle of the wills involving her bladder and bowel today. (photo attached)
We’ve got 10 musicians on our front porch now, including a huge bass and hammered dulcimer. Plus two cloggers on the sidewalk. The rain stopped for a bit—maybe it will hold off some more.
1. Last night's small BBQ with neighbor from across the street was a good time.
2. I made an amazing banana ice cream using a custard base with 6 egg yolks and a heck of a lot of cream. Then used the 6 egg whites to make vanilla-lime merengue cookies. Both were delicious and served in ceramics that I made. (photos attached)
3. My experimental monoprinting on clay turned out well. I made 6 small dishes for holding used tea bags or infusers. (photo attached)
May 18, 2024. Photo taken just now as we head into the golden hour in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is our first peony bloom of the season--with many more coming soon. Isn't she a beauty? (photo attached)
