@thatonecalculator Right, there's an official one. Nice. Feels like I should have just googled it now.

    Sorry. Thank you.

The readme in calckey.py doesn't look super detailed. But I'll look properly in the coming weeks and submit a pull request to improve it if turns out to be useful to do so.

    Cheers.

At some point soon I'm going to have to start writing a #calckey #bot

Initially just to mirror my bookmarks RSS, as @prelinks does at the moment, moving that onto my Clackey server.

But with more complex stuff written later.

Presumably there's an #api or an #sdk in #node or maybe mildly preferably #python ?

Anyone have any opinions on which ones might be best for that?

I wanna just run a cron every five minutes on the calckey server and have it be able to poll RSS and perform user-actions for the bots it controls.

The cab driver turned round and said, "these days, you get arrested and thrown in jail if you say you're #JohnMastodon don't you?"

    It's a trademark thing apparently.

They actually throw you in jail if you call the #Fediverse #Mastodon.

    These days.

    No. I'm telling you.

@hex Why do you keep using Mastodon if you hate it to much?

I'm sure you'd be happier using Calckey or Misskey or Pleroma.

They all have quote-boosts. Two of the three you can even do an account-migration to take your followers/followees.

Gargron don't want quote-toots in his software. Fine. Sup to him. It's his software. So use something else then?

That's how it's supposed to work here, why the apps are all compatible.

Calckey is better in almost every way really. Will probably migrate this instance to it once that is possible.

@lain family man. Where's the profit in it. A good Ferengi would only accept family relations with a proper contract and expectation of profit.

@lain exactly. Family is bullshit unless you can sell the children.

No point in a personal garden. Must all be farms for profit.

@aral Dunno how personally involved he is. Apparently he was surprised to find it had access to the Twitter database, and cut it off.

    • Mastodon Users

There is no apparent end to the influx of users, and also thank-goodness of servers and communities.

I hear that Cohost and Hive and Tumblr are also still onboarding as fast as they can.

#Hive is just another overlord, a capital-owned data-broker. The capital-owned media are promoting it heavily as you'd expect. They terms seem to explicitly say they will sell you out.

#Cohost is at least owned by a charity, but that's still a single entity in control of the thing. Will they ever federate or interoperate? Who knows. It's not up to you. They hope to make money and give it to the highest value posters, and so rank everything by how important people are.

#Tumblr are owned by a weird distributed company, that are currently good guys as far as I can tell. Wordpress folks. They tell us they are thinking of federating and inter-operating as soon as they can, but are busy on-boarding right now.

#Mastodon / The-Fediverse is getting the freaks and the geeks and the queers and weirdos.

    My people.

Where we lead, the masses end up following. Though I dunno if we should let them this time really.

Also Tumblr has a lot of weirdos too actually.

I new there was another one I forgot.

I like that #postnews is quite similar to instances with names like #poast on Fedi which are pretty much all toxic and terrible shitposting instances.

"Post" is a terrible completely un-googleable name. Can you imaging searching for "social media, post" and getting anything sane?

They are owned by billionaries who intend to sell your eyeballs, and maybe share that with their top-posters as far as I can tell.

They are unlikely to federate, and seem to desire to lock you in so they can farm you like all the other people-farmers on the internet.

If the fediverse is an elephant then #Tumblr is a whale. A whole pod of whales.

Tumblr has 200 blogs for every current Fedi account.

If they turn on activitypub there will be no need to look at instance names because it'll be statistically unlikely to be anything to Tumblr.

Worse than all email being Gmail.

@lain I like the ones who say they're just reserving their name in case the bird dies, and then wonder off not reading the replies saying why that's not really how it works.

I agree we should have small instances, but that exasperates the problem if having to send a job for every server following you. Would mean sending more jobs to more small instances instead of one job to a big one.

Some way to bit-torrent the data around the network may be important if we star to get people with hundreds of thousands of followers.

Live in the #london #ukI am #Admin of a micro instance.
