@cwebber "and harder to spot too"
This is a thing that I feel is underestimated by so many people: these tools are trained to generate output that is as *convincing* as possible, regardless of whether the output is *correct*.

Wow, the stakes in Girl Genius are reaching an all-time high
@cwebber @spritely Will there be a recording? Asking since I'm afraid I *have* to miss it due to other obligations at that time :(
@Freyja "A consensus position was reached regarding the multi-professional nature of support for trans youth, the prescription of molecules aimed at inhibiting endogenous hormone secretion, and the use of gender-affirming hormone therapies, as well as the importance of offering gamete preservation."
They're saying they support hormone therapy, right? Asking because my literal-minded brain reads this as "a consensus was reached", without any clear statement of what the consensus is.
@aral "Do not fall into the trap of anthropomorphising Larry Ellison. You need to think of Larry Ellison the way you think of a lawnmower. You don’t anthropomorphize your lawnmower, the lawnmower just mows the lawn, you stick your hand in there and it’ll chop it off, the end. You don’t think ‘oh, the lawnmower hates me’ – lawnmower doesn’t give a shit about you, lawnmower can’t hate you. Don’t anthropomorphize the lawnmower. Don’t fall into that trap about Oracle." - Brian Cantrill
@MichaelTBacon @aral @gnome I'm not sure what your point is. Is the existence of x11 stopping you from using wayland?
@aral agreed, with the caveat that I do "care" to the extent that how a tumor mutates in response to a cancer treatment in an attempt to evade said cancer treatment is very important to keep track of.
@georgelund
I guess you haven't heard of that time in 2020 when Mozilla laid off 25% of its employees, but still raised the pay of upper management that was already in the millions?
Also, how do you justify the fact that it's not possible to directly donate to the development of the Firefox browser, but only to Mozilla?
Is there a website like Google Graveyard for "otherwise perfectly fine businesses that were ruined by pursuing infinite (hyper)growth"?
I wonder just how many Nice Things have been needlessly ruined that way in the last decades.

Wrote the loom viewer at LinnarssonLab, now at Primity Bio. he/theyA like from me usually implies "I would have boosted this but I don't think it's quite appropriate for the instance I'm on".Profile photo description: a crop of an outdoor group photo, zoomed in on the face of a man of mixed Asian-European ethnicity with black hair, a beard and a moustache, wearing red-tinted color-blindness correcting glasses.
