Sadly I had to use an inappropriate setup as I had some issues with the unicycle I planned to use.
This meant no studded, winter tyre. But since there was no real ice and just light snow cover, it was fine anyway.
Still, it is always a bit of a shame when you do not have your uncycle setup just right for the winter conditions. People might think I am some kind of newb! 😜
As I was cycling in this morning there was a woman in front of me who slipped a little on some icy/wet leaves down a minor slope. She did not fall down and was not in any way hurt but I think it suprised her a little.
As I cycled past I said, "Forsiktig, det er glatt!" (Careful, it is slippery).
Mean … maybe… but I made myself smile. 😜
I didn't actually look back to see if she was amused or angry.
I do think that people overestimate the risk I am taking when unicycling relatively slowly in the snow.
Normally in the winter I have a wide tyre with hundreds of studs and look more stable than most of the pedestrians when cycling over icy patches. Yet they often tell me to wear a helmet, while they slip around without one.
Given we are would be falling from roughly the same height (on a small uni) and they are more likely than me to fall, who really should be wearing the helmet? 🤷
@amin Norway is currently on DST (Daylight Saving Time), which is applied in summer so that darkness falls at a later clock time. The gain is in the evening based on when people wake. Our version is called CEST (Central European Summer Time) and ends (switches back to CET) on 29th October.
In the US (summer) daylight savings are until 5th November.
@feditips I can tweak this old script that I used to use on my watch account that posted hourly updates of the time in binary as Christmas trees (lit and unlit).
Make it into something more useful and embed it in a blog post
@feditips Well it just makes the posting part really simple as you can just pipe text into it from the command line. Here is a small excerpt from the shell script that posts the @vivaldiversiontracker information.
@feditips My "bots" (actually just automated posting) are tiny shell scripts run as cron jobs. At set intervals they use cURL to fetch information from the web, extract key values with tools like sed and grep and then post with Toot (if those values have changed since last time).
I know it is not for everyone but the barrier for entry is fairly low if someone is at all command line savvy.
@feditips FWIW I do think a lot of sighted users do use the alt text as well. Images are sometimes deleted from caches on instances. In addition there are extentions and tools built into browsers (including Vivaldi) to prevent loading of images for various reasons. Here is my earlier post, which interestingly shows the entire alt text even though the toltip did not.
