Well, it's been a hell of a June. This is the last #Juneteenth reparations thread until 2025.
It has been really lovely to see how much the threads have been shared, and even to hear that someone had their monthly goal met! It shows how we can build networks and structures to care for each other.
Procedure: Black folks please post your gofundmes, ko-fis, cashapps, etc. as you see fit. Others, especially if you benefited from the federal holiday, please boost and donate if you have means.
Here are the 1st 2 threads. Many ppl still have $$ needs that are unmet and there's also a Sudan mutual aid post in there, as well as information about Marcellus Williams, a current client of The Innocence Project, who is currently scheduled to be executed for a crime he did not commit.
Cause like why are you kissing Joseph's hand like he's the godfather? Like even if he weren't visibly aiding and abetting genocide rn it would still be weird. Like dude it's June if anything he need to be kissing your hand and begging for your grace and favor. And that's not even touching the way James Baldwin must be rolling over with Billy portraying him in the upcoming film!
Jordan Peele truly went off when he coined "sunken place" because that's the only explanation here 🥴
Here is the first #Juneteenth#reparations#MutualAid thread. Lots of folk in these threads have $$ needs that are still unmet and there is also a post with Sudanese mutual aid links.
Hey y'all! We're a coupla weeks into June and Biden got his white hand kissed by Billy Porter at a #Juneteenth celebration for some reason. Weird how the federal recognition of a holiday with Black self-actualizing origins gets us to a moment like that but I think it truly calls for another Juneteenth reparations thread!
Procedure: Black ppl, post your cashapp, gofundmes, ko-fis, etc Others--especially if you're getting Juneteenth off at your work--pls boost, and donate if you have the means!
If you're gonna use the "Nobody's free until everybody's free." Make sure you attribute it to the working-class black woman activist who said it, Fanie Lou Hamer. Don't act like you just got the words out of space.
Leftists have a habit of using Black women's words while ignoring our existence. Work on that.
Like for real. Imagine explaining Angela Davis and Freedom is a Constant Struggle to an American Black woman like she's 5 and being "confused" by her reaction. You got gumption, I'll give you that. And nothing else.
I'm so sick of this happening to black women. It's wild that the most educated demographic in this country is also the one most condescended to. Y'all don't be explaining basic shit to white men (except when you spoonfeed them anti-racism 101)
Gah just saw someone tell a black woman to read Freedom is a Constant Struggle by Angela Davis after being called out for racism (comments about a famous BW artist who has been vocal about Palestine for a decade) and she told her "not to divide us." What a fucking gag.
You want us to work ourselves to death and then after you kill us you will tell us we could've done more.
Y'all rly rly want black women to be your mules so bad that you perceive harm when we refuse.
Archival research can be really enjoyable. The cold ac forces me to a bring comfy sweater and I love the scent of old paper.
Then I come across some fucked up nazi shit some white girl from the early 1900s wrote and I have to fight a sudden desire to destroy historical documents.
I remind myself that it is evidence that should be preserved. I guess. I text my partner about it and we talk abt how wild it is that MANY usians supported the nazis prior to WW2 and how that USED to be surprising.
Archival research can be intimidating. All of the box numbers and folders and finders aids etc etc etc
But that old paper smell. The eerie but calming (for ME) knowledge that the people who wrote the documents you currently hold had entire lives before the birth of even your grandparents, depending.
The vibe of going through a literal crapshoot of documents searching for something specific, only to find something you never would have thought to look for. Some of it helps your project maybe
@Adam_Cadmon1 this person/those people care more about the spectacle of activism than the safety of the young people putting their bodies on the line.
As someone who has been to many protests, we generally distrust those who would encourage others to fight police as individuals especially w/o any consideration of whether certain ppl's ids make them more vulnerable to police brutality.
V easy to say stuff like that when you are a bad actor/not planning in the least to get out there yourself
