@sortius I recently discovered that Japan did an advertising blitz about 80 years ago about how to behave in public, including, crucially, teaching same in schools. I wonder if it's too late for Australia to do the same.

@sortius I noticed Seoul is pretty good at telling people which side of the subway stairs to walk on. Little signs on every step at major stations, for instance. Sydney Trains could be a lot more like that.

@baldur I've been a programmer since I was in high school. The rather large employer I had been at for many years and was let go from 2 months ago was not only leaning into the whole "AI" shit but actively separating software engineering and software coding.

I could see general coding quality was dropping. And their very processes was preferencing dumb code monkeys who didn't want to understand the design.

@adamshostack The data model leverages the visibility mechanism. Which does make sense as that's how DMs do conceptually work - visible to only those mentioned. This also has the advantage of getting group DMs for free. Unfortunately, this means DMs can easily become group DMs.

The basic fail here is that most users expect DMs to be a special case, and thus have their own area in the UI.

@steter For today, I was mounting some 3.5mm sockets in strip board. Nothing fancy. Basically making some MIDI TRS AxB changers. It's just the holes are 1.0mm and so are the pins... I need to find a 1.2mm drill bit, but I made do with 1.5mm today.

I did, of course, check my soldering afterwards with a loupe, and did continuity checks, too.

Fediverse... I'd like to find a hand-held pin-chuck for drilling out 1mm holes to 1.2/1.5mm on PCBs. Many many years ago, Jaycar had one in their catalogue but no longer. I've never found one in Bunnings, either. What do people recommend?

And while I think of it, 1.2mm drill bit shouldn't be hard to find, either, right?

What about the best way to cut vero board? I don't remember what my Dad used to do and the little band saw I got off him doesn't leave clean cuts (the blade is probably too coarse).
