@hollie Yessss, it's so good! I showed it to Viv at the end of last week and he went on to play it on repeat all weekend, haha.

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Monday, 03-Jul-2023 09:57:56 JST Jessica @futzle My main language is definitely English, but I still do speak Spanish to Gidget pretty often and when I do, I always use tú conjugations with her 😅 Even though she also gets addressed as princesa half the time, haha.

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Thursday, 29-Jun-2023 11:08:26 JST Jessica @alexandra @maique You guys made me curious what Australia’s figures were, so I looked it up. Apparently we’re at 81% of the population with 2 doses, which is lower than I thought, but I guess it’s because the media always reported the % of the population aged 16+, which is 96%. I will say that I do notice some people (almost all older people) still masking up every time I go to the supermarket, and of course they’re still used in medical settings… but otherwise masking is a distant memory here for most people.

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Tuesday, 20-Jun-2023 23:15:17 JST Jessica 😹 It was one minute to midnight and Gidget somehow figured out how to unplug the router and thereby disconnect our internet. Damn cat. Fine then, I'll take the hint and go to bed…

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Friday, 16-Jun-2023 14:13:22 JST Jessica @hollie Oh, they definitely let out some noxious ones 😂 They seem to be a lot more embarrassed by them than dogs, though – at least, when I go "Pee-yeurh Gidget, what was that?!" she looks pretty sheepish! Whereas dogs seem to be more like, "Teehee, yeah I did it, so what?" I guess cats know it doesn't really fit their clean and dignified image 😅

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Friday, 16-Jun-2023 13:09:38 JST Jessica @hollie Hahaha, I ask the same thing of Gidget sometimes. There she’ll be, contentedly snoozing and soaking up the pats on my lap, when suddenly, I am hit by a cloud of toxic fumes 😫 She always acts so affronted when I start spluttering, too. "What, human, are you saying I smell?!" Yes, cat, yes I am…

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Thursday, 15-Jun-2023 16:01:57 JST Jessica @fsvo Yeah, this might well be unfair of me, but considering that seemingly EVERY insufferable literature bro who waxes lyrical about how female writers just don’t speak to the male soul blah blah blah nominates Cormac McCarthy as their fave, I have never been tempted to give him a try

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Thursday, 15-Jun-2023 15:51:27 JST Jessica @awitchandherdog I'm pretty sure that the Romance third-person pronouns come from the Latin demonstratives – in the Western Romance languages they come from "ille" and "illa", for example. In fact iirc, PIE didn't have third-person pronouns at all, instead using demonstratives (which, being inflected for gender, became a natural source for pronouns later!)

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Thursday, 15-Jun-2023 09:15:56 JST Jessica @hollie I think that's a really good question! The Fediverse seems more accessible to those people than the IndieWeb, but even then I've never convinced any IRL people to sign up, firstly because of the "you have to pick a server" thing (sadly), and secondly because they don't really want to make a whole new account just to follow one person. Now if everyone were on the Fediverse then the whole beauty of it would be that you can follow everyone from your one account, but since the status quo is that "everyone" is on FB or Insta… not so much. So if anything, I think the way forward is to get more and more Fedi-curious people on here, so "regular" people are likely to know multiple people already on the Fedi, and gradually get curious themselves.
Then as for the IndieWeb... I feel like if someone is not interested in coding/HTML/etc., it's a really hard sell, and if they're not even open to the Fedi they definitely won't be to the IndieWeb. Unless they're a freelancer or something and you can convince them it's good for business to have their own website, even despite their lack of coding interest, perhaps. Honestly unless someone was reminiscing with me about customising their Neopets profile with HTML and CSS back in the day, or something, I wouldn't try selling a "regular" person on the IndieWeb 😅

Jessica (jayeless@toot.cat)'s status on Tuesday, 13-Jun-2023 16:30:47 JST Jessica @leobm Well, I can pass on what I know :) According to Lemmy’s GitHub project page, there are two main developers, nutomic and dessalines, who both also moderate the lemmy.ml instance. I don’t have anything immediately to hand about their stance on Putin specifically, but there is this thread in which they justified banning people for posting any criticisms of the Chinese government because they feel that’s “orientalism” and “racism”. I also know that as of, like, a week ago, any posts or comments on Lemmy.ml about the Russia-Ukraine war would be upvoted heavily if they contained pro-Russian talking points and downvoted heavily (and argued with) if they were pro-Ukraine, which is circumstantial but I feel like it speaks to the culture they’ve cultivated on that instance. So yeah, I would definitely prefer to promote other projects, like Kbin.
