was warned by sempai that they got scolded for the sorry state of their kendō pass from just throwing it into gym bags, and that I should take steps to protect mine. I would 100% have mine in a poor state from throwing it into gym bags within the semestre if I hadn't gotten that warning.

I found this linen nécessaire from a shop in Lithuania that I thought fit the kendō aesthetic perfectly and the size seemed to fit just right. but I forgot to take into account that you need some leeway because the zipper will always be smaller than the total length, plus just to put the passport in and out without bending it.

there's a small amount of middle-class people in Brazil who hate funk carioca due to widespread sexism and patriarchal or regressive values etc.

there's a much larger number of people who hate it because they don't like it when people are openly sexual and enjoy being sexually overt with no punishment; these will use accusations of patriarchy to mask their prudishness. I think there's several functions of the overt pornography of lyrics in funk carioca.

first of all it's immediately cathartic: it talks explicitly, loudly and gleefully about things that are not meant to be said out loud. I should hasten to say that mainstream funk is often very #problematic and patriarchal, many of them romanticise predatory behaviours, etc. though there also currents that are travesti, feminist and so on. but even within mainstream straight funk, there's a sort of iconoclastic freedom for women to compose it, or even just to admit to liking it or dancing it. the large female fanbase of funk carioca is in direct contradiction to the ideology that women aren't sexual or promiscuous.

second, as an openly sexual Black music style from the favelas, it bothers the white middle class tremendously, and not just for the sex. so it has value in itself just to bang it loud from cars at 2am in good neighborhoods and make the bourgeois write for weeks to newspapers lamenting the moral decay of society etc.

third, as party music, other than being eminently danceable, funk acts to set the tone of the party: it establishes baile funk as something very close to a sex party by foregrounding the filthiest casual sex behaviour explicitly, putting it into everyone's imagination; not unlike the sexual art one sees in BDSM club décor and the like. the lyrics establish expectations. like if you get into a baile funk by accident and you don't want to be in a scene that may involve casual groping, constant sexual advances etc., you'll immediately know you stepped into the wrong type of party, by lyrics alone, before even you spot all the women twerking in miniskirts without panties.

and fourth, yes, it gets people horny: not just for describing sexual acts to the imagination but because all the stuff above (breaking taboos, shocking society, establishing a sex party space) are in themselves hot.

straight men who are actually into sex usually look like some unassuming random middle-aged uncle who doesn't look particularly pretty or athletic, but over time acquired a reputation as a skilled lover who's good for a bit of fun and won't brag about it or pester you about it afterwards. you see them in their natural habitat on straight sex spaces like swinger clubs, or leaving a generic dance club discretely with a different woman every time. those unassuming uncles get their dicks wet more often than you would imagine, due to their distinctive and highly unusual trait of being a heterosexual man who looks for casual sex for the sake of sexual pleasure rather than personal validation, and don't make it be like, a whole thing

someone the other day asked me if straight people do cruising, and I tried to list what subcultures I know about (not counting straight-identified people who engage in homosexual cruising):

- dogging
- informal cruising corners of FKK-style spaces
- highly sexualised nightlife scenes that stay one hairline away from being a downright orgy, mostly because that hairline makes it more fun (e.g. baile funk)
- porn movie theatres (are these still around? back in the day they were more of a sex club than about watching porn per se. it was mostly men having sex with one another, but unless it was specifically a gay cinema, this was also a space where straight women would go sometimes to have casual sex in a relatively safe context, with a general attitude of "a hole is a hole" by the people involved.)

straight cruising feels a bit different than cruising though, because of their bizarre dynamics of "the two genders" I was discussing before, like, women being basically a prize and men being basically taken for granted. in queer cruising of course some types of bodies are more desirable or in demand than others but it's nothing like the massive asymmetry, the almost compulsory presenter-and-showcase dynamics of a straight couple out for informally negotiated anonymous sex. a lesbian butch or a daddy top at a prowling area are in a very different social relationship with their potential partners than straights at a dogging meet. which is why dogging starts as couples exhibitionism: it's generally much more doable for a cis woman to be shown off by a male partner who goes home with her, and who can gate eventual participants for boundaries and be respected, than to risk going alone to have sex with strangers in a park, even if she's more sexually attracted to the second type of kink.

I have had friends in this latter category, and I feel bad for them; it's actually really hard to be straight and into casual sex; you meet a guy for a one-night stand you thought was fun and all and suddenly he's texting you constantly, evading blocks, driving his car slowly by your address which you never gave him, etc. (actual example.) you might think straight men are all about casual no-strings-attached sex, because they *think* they want that, but they don't want that, they want the answer to the fundamental existential emptiness of the human condition, and when sex with a hot woman fails to solve the fundamental existential emptiness of the human condition, lots of them will blame the woman.

I've been talking with like some normcore Germans recently and unintentionally let the topic get to the rise of fascism, and what came of it is that most people here don't see fascists as a *physical* threat, to them in particular. the fact that they are German and white means they never underwent street harassment for political reasons, let alone political violence. they think this is some niche thing that happens rarely and to someone else.

I don't have to ask to know that their threat model puts Islamist terrorism as a higher threat for them than nazis. I'm not even talking about the racism, I'm talking of this big glaring failure in their threat model.

like once someone asked me, as a loaded question, if I'm ok with some of us sacrificing ourselves, then (because I defend direct action). and I was like, the nazis have stockpiled weapons and post them on social media and romanticise pogroms in shooting galleries and tell us directly, "soon all of you will be hanging from the lamppost", etc. in what timeline do you live in that you imagine that does *not* involve them shooting at us? do you think what, we're going to get Die Linke in power at some point and the 30% of AfD voters will be like, oh welp, we lost, time to sell all those piles of ammunition on kleinanzeigen? let's close all the little nazi farms with the nazi communities running nazi schools to teach little nazi children how to be nazis and turn them to Montessouri?

what people here miss is that both times I was attacked with violence, it wasn't because I was trans, or immigrant, or confrontational. I didn't dress "political" back then, I didn't have tattoos, it was too cold for my body to be visible, and I pass as white. no one thinks I'm an immigrant until I speak, and even then they think I'm from somewhere in Europe, because Germans generally don't know that white people live in the third world, and nazis aren't known for their socieogeographical sophistication. no, in both cases where they made a first move and finally gave me the excuse to beat up some nazis, the trigger was, the nazis saw me removing white supremacy or pro-Hitler stickers that they had put on public spaces. (I've been also verbally harassed many many times for looking queer or dressing political, but every time so far they backed down upon confrontation; the times where I was downright assaulted, it was due to the sticker wars).
