Last night was the longest night of the year in Greece, so #Helios had his shortest work day.
"At the winter solstice, the sun would seem to be a little child like that which the Egyptians bring forth from a shrine on the appointed day, since the day is then at its shortest and the god is accordingly shown as a tiny infant." Macrobius, #Saturnalia
@darlingofinana I just mention it because the concept of race was obviously all over Europe 100 years ago.
But not gonna lie, I always get whiplash when I see progressive people use the word "race". Race is not even a useful concept in zoology. It's time to let it go.
I spoke to a friend this weekend who claimed that I am the only woman he knows who (says she) has experienced people not taking her seriously or questioning her competence because she's a woman. This man works with female engineers and software developers. If really zero of his female colleagues have experienced this I am happy for them but I find that hard to believe. Any #WomenInTech wanna weigh in on that? I have a STEM degree but I have never worked in dev.
#WritersCoffeeClub 18 April: How important is social media in promoting your work?
I do get the occasional sale without promotion but I see an increase whenever I'm posting a link online. This was very noticable before the social media diaspora when I was very active on #Twitter. Nowadays #Mastodon is my main platform and I *think* some of you guys bought a book and became patrons of my work? But since Mastodon doesn't show up in analytics I just don't know ๐
Feedback is extremely welcome. This is a loving document, it can only be honed and get better with loving input from other users. What are your best tips for #creators?
Apparently voicing that #racism is bad and that #feminism isn't solved now makes me a "radical leftist". I had assumed that these were mainstream consensus but here we are.
Have a beautiful Day of Aphrodite aka Venus' Day aka Frigg's Day aka Friday ๐น
For #BlackHistoryMonth, I'm introducing African deities in my daily god toots. Meet #Oshun, the #Yoruba goddess of divinity, femininity, fertility, beauty & love. She is the patron saint of the Osun River in #Nigeria and her devotees leave her offerings and perform ceremonies at bodies of fresh water such as rivers, streams and canals. Her colours are white, yellow, gold, and coral. #Orisha#AfricanDiaspora
@Tibor This baffles me too. BlueSky feels like a beta version which it probably is. Also you have to learn a new system to tag your posts which is the exact same as on Mastodon.
But I will say, optional algorithms are a neat idea that I think could be a valueable addition to Mastodon.
So I'm back from my #museum trip. I am severely disappointed by all of the statues having been vandalised. The only intact phalloi I could find were on a relief and a modern reconstruction. I DID meet a beautiful statue of #Aphrodite, though! She even still has a visible slit! I will share the images on Friday, the Day of Aphrodite. As a sneak peek, enjoy this beautiful bum!
@nggalai I think that is the most likely course as well, especially considering how things have played out on other platforms. Even though Twitter technically allows NSFW it felt like my reach had been reduced vastly well before EM bought it.
@nggalai I am working on a piece arguing why Mastodon is the best bet for NSFW content creators but I do understand the concerns about finding an audience. Mastodon doesn't show up in analytics either so it's tough to say how many people actually follow your links. I had thought nobody came via Mastodon until I found out it shows as a direct hit rather than via Mastodon.
NSFW may be allowed on Bluesky now, in the beginning it always is. NSFW creators only get the boot once the platform is big.
