Home from my grandma's place, brought her food, made lunch, did a little bit of tech support for her and (with permission) I have taken home her iMac for investigation by my wife.

Grandma's tech support problems stem from settings UI taking the form of a glyph she needs to memorize (the rotation lock on her iPad, the volume slider on her phone, and the Speakerphone icon on her phone)

Or from not reading error messages.

I think a lot of grandma's tech problems have actually come from transitioning from a whole-ass big computer with a mouse and keyboard to an iPad.

Somebody who types super fast because she grew up with typewriters isn't better served by being forced to hunt and peck on a touch screen.

I think the sweet spot is 4 to 8 tones (if I can get it there) two looks like a photocopied newspaper clipping with the software I'm using (paint dot net) but 12 or 16 can start to look muddy.
