@thisismissem a co-op ;)
I don’t know that this needs to or should be labeled.
I totally understand that technically one might want to describe something.
But do we have labels for “working together” or other relationships, aka “it’s complicated” ;)

@thisismissem technically that’s a formal structure. But it may in fact be helpful in some cases for orgs to have formal structures like membership shares in a co-op.
I don’t actually think that’s going to happen other than in niche areas but it very much depends on the Fediverse server model.
A services org that specializes in hosting?
Are there moderation as a service entities?
There are a handful of co-ops that specialize in eg Wordpress or Drupal hosting and that’s about it.
OK! We're doing a #CoopJam live video call tomorrow at 5pm PST
Join me from #CoSocialCa and @Matt_Noyes from #SocialCoop -- and any other co-ops that want to join!
We're going to talk about cooperating and our services and whatever else comes up.
Register to let us know you're coming https://lu.ma/iw3jyd7k
Notes here: https://members.cosocial.ca/t/cooperating-with-social-coop/225
Also tomorrow, for those close enough to get to #Montreal for the evening, join @evan at a co-op brew pub at 7pm EST https://cosocial.ca/@coop/111717166195646063
This is also on the #CoSocialCalendar https://lu.ma/cosocial -- anyone can submit events to this, BTW, and can just link out to existing ones
@coop we’ve got @aeisenberg and me volunteering some time to work on this.
There’s a call for anyone else that wants to join the #CoSocialCastopod working group in the members forum https://members.cosocial.ca/t/call-for-castopod-podcast-hosting-working-group/211
And of course, if you’re not already a member, a $50 annual fee gets you:
- a $10 co-op membership share ownership
- Canadian hosted #fediverse services
- Mastodon account and a growing list of other tools like this
Specifically — we need #podcast hosts in #canada to be early users!
Thanks @mick for joining & then leading the #CoSocialCa tech team!

@evan @tchambers @darius PRs welcome ;)
@evan @tchambers @darius yes exactly.
The point being made was podcast feed to AP feed with audio attachment via eg Darius’ RSS posting script.
@tchambers @darius I haven’t looked at the code in detail, but one could modify it to look for podcast link tags and append a link to the audio (and cover and other things that Mastodon at least supports for audio attachments)
Note: Castopod supports imports https://blog.castopod.org/import-your-existing-podcast-into-castopod/ not sure if it supports synch like PeerTube supports YT synching
@evan Pixelfed is already in progress on a “production” track and was identified as the highest of interest (though not a vote per se)
Castopod is possible in “test mode” because it’s a one click install on the ops server. So, no additional tech bandwidth needed.
The bandwidth we’re missing in this case is learning and testing Castopod.
@evan if I can get *2 people* to commit to experimenting / documenting / onboarding, we can totally do this.
I'll take the screenshots and things I just made and post to the members forum to explain what's possible.
We did a bunch of stuff live on my own test server at #CommonsComputer
So here's the first post from the amazing "Boris Self Hosting" podcast, which you can follow directly @bmannselfhosting
Note: not a real podcast :) @rndeon followed along as we pushed some buttons to bring this live.

Here's a #Castopod screenshot of my #CoSocialCa account following, favouriting, and boosting the podcast post
@rndeon joined me on stream, is doing some trouble shooting with Jitsi
You'll note the jitsi has a cosocial address. It's one of the things that we're running on our Cloudron for ops support for the co-op.
We've got @Sebprovencher joining us
Reminiscing about early Canada startup days in ~2007
Seb used to be a "top social media expert" in Quebec in those early days.
Worked with @walkah at Bus.com
Talking about "who should run an instance" @Sebprovencher as well as how to promote both co-ops and fediverse
Government? Local movements.
Can we channel "buy local" for adoption?
Seb has been following #Montreal and finding / discovering new people and original stuff.
Strong 2006/7/8 early social vibes.
Yay @alkatandan has joined us!
We're exploring apps on the new #Cloudron ops server.
This is a screen shot of the app catalog.
We'll make a call out for people interested in #Castopod as one example of a service we might offer https://castopod.org - fediverse enabled podcast hosting!
@ntnsndr we _just_ recently spun up a Cloudron for "ops" purposes -- running the wordpress blog, email for working groups, the jitsi.
I plan on migrating the Members Discourse from Digital Ocean to this server.
I'd like to use Mastodon as the single-sign-on, need to do some future experiments there.
We're "professionally" hosting the CoSocial Mastodon server for scale / without single points of failure, and will for other official services like Pixelfed.
@ntnsndr #Cloudron! On a bare metal OVH server in a Canadian data center.
