Let's start with some highlights from Aotearoa...
Rare endemic birds edition, again from Kapiti Island. #birdsNZ #birds
I also pulled out birds highlights. There were a lot of good bird pictures from Kapiti Island last June. #birdsNZ #birds
And other non-rare birds from around the world. #birds
From Treble Cone (August 2023), spectacular views down to Lake Wānaka. #skiing
Kea is up to no good but just doesn't weigh enough to open the lid. Poor kea (not). #birdsNZ
Here's a pair of Inca terns from a few weeks ago, near Paracas, Lima. #birds
@inthehands super interesting take to hear for someone who designs research prototype tools, thanks!
View from my commute this morning. Hello Mr Goose.
@MonniauxD @skinnylatte and which restaurant is that? Will have to go there!
@simon_brooke @cwebber good times, that was the text for the Programming Languages and Paradigms course I took in 1996
@simon_brooke @cwebber (got me, I donated)
@mayintoronto @skinnylatte I had a really excellent fish and chips from Bullock's Bistro, was it there?
Here's another submission I made, this time on the NZ Regulatory Standards Bill. Also bad! #NZpol

> This legislation has already been rejected three times. It should once again be rejected and buried.
@skinnylatte how else could one pay student debt...
@skinnylatte maybe some would have been eligible for O-1 out of grad school, but in my research group at the time we had 2/3 Europeans go back to Europe and 1 stayed in the US; Canadian (me) went back to Canada; Indian stayed in the US; 3 Americans stayed in the US...
@skinnylatte wow now that's a hot take
@onepict @hacks4pancakes @Lazarou @munin or luck, but it's hard to plan on that. I got lucky twice: with my parents moving to Canada before I was born, and with my spouse being in NZ on a work visa in 2022 (though that was also in part planned based on a hunch)
@libroraptor @skinnylatte I think the Spinoff had some article about the "traditional" Chinese food in NZ... They did also have a bunch of content about immigrant food in general.
We went on a tramp in the Remutakas, almost all accessible by public transport (we needed to get a ride to Catchpool Valley). #tramping
