There is finally excellent xiaolongbao dumplings in San Francisco without having to go to Fremont / Union City (Din Ding) or South Bay (Din Tai Fung).

It’s at Stonestown of course (Supreme Dumplings).

There have always been above average Cantonese dimsum spots in San Francisco but there hasn’t been a specifically Shanghainese or Taiwanese xiaolongbao specialist, until now.

Anyone who thinks ‘malls and retail are dead in the bay area’ should go see how AAPI focused destinations (Stonestown, Serramonte, Jagalchi) are POPPING. You can’t have vibrant food or retail unless you also have good food catering to Asian Americans in the Bay Area, and that’s the entire issue with Market St and FiDi in SF

@mayintoronto SF is only 7x7 miles and outside of Chinatown and some other immigrant neighborhoods, I would say most of the normal food for normal people have moved to the burbs.

I would go to Fremont or Millbrae to get exciting not Cantonese modern Chinese food

Oakland too has more traditional Cantonese food

San Jose (40 miles south) has the excellent suburban immigrant food scene for every cuisine

Anyone who thinks SF has better food is tripping. Lol

@skinnylatte The Asian plaza/food court scene here is pretty solid in the suburbs. It's relatively insulated from the mainstream influencers. Do you have anything like those in SF?

@va2lam @mayintoronto I think San Jose has that to an extent (there is some as good as Bangalore dosa in some people’s garages or in strip malls) but LA has that sort of thing in spades (mainly coz LA is almost all suburbs and almost all the food is amazing)

@mayintoronto @skinnylatte speaking of food courts, my friends took me to a really good Caribbean place, Tropical Joes, in the Gerrard Square Shopping Centre in Toronto (total 90s vibe). Jerk chicken and rice and peas good, chickpea curry excellent.
