Is there a tool that let me take my #Mastodon posts with me when migrating between servers? (From one self-hosted server to another, if that matters.)

My single user Mastodon instance feels like the right choice everyday. But some days more than others.

If you only have time for one summary of what happned within AI during 2024, my suggestion is that you spend that time on @simon's post. It's great, and covers both technological advancements as well as what they mean in practice.

Been away from #Mastodon since last weekend because of an hectic week. The biggest difference since I last had a look at my feed: Almost no one seems to discuss #bluesky anymore.

Did the hype already pass?

And it’s cool how the different parts of #fediverse intertwine: From my #pixelfed instance, with its UX focused on photos, I can follow accounts from #mastodon, but filter out everything those accounts post that’s not an image.

📸It’s been two years since I last tried #Pixelfed. Reinstalled on my Cloudron server this week.

Blown away by two things:

1. How far the platform have come.

2. All great photographers who are using it.

It’s also fascinating to discover a whole new part/community of the #fediverse. When I first moved here, I got started in the technology bubble, slowly adding climate, followed by science in general, and, leading up to the US election, politics.

And now photography.

It’s all here. But it perhaps takes a more effort to discover your peers on Fediverse compared to other platforms.

15+ years ago I wrote a lot about the "browser wars". Building proprietary solutions made it clear that going by yourself allowed for a higher pace, while building something more robust takes longer.

The same is true today, I think.

My #VPS where this #Mastodon instance is hosted are running out of space. I want to move the media storage off to a #S3 bucket. It seems simple enough – save for one thing: How do I move the current media files from the VPS to S3?

Can't find any information wether that happens automatically or if that's something I've to do manually. And if the latter – how?
