At 09:06:02 AM this morning the CEO of Amazon Andy Jassy had already made the annual salary of a Bangladeshi garment worker. 10 minutes later, Zaraโs Oscar Garcรญa Maceiras had done the same.
Why do women wear flowers in their hair to work in the hell of a Tamil Nadu garment factory? Why do unions know to check on a woman who stops wearing flowers?
You don't get to write this kind of piece (or even know it needs writing) without doing the long, hard work of grassroots union solidarity, so thank you Nandita and Nikita for such an insightful article.

See, now I've had an offensive reply to my Signal post and it annoys me @Mastodon that while I can block this person their post will forever be stuck to my post and I can't shield anyone who looks at my post from seeing their offensive words. There has to be a better block system.
I am very pleased with the update from @signalapp which means that you can now generate a username and not have to publish or give out your phone number.
This is a big step forward for allowing journalists to make un/less traceable first contact with sources without compromising either party.
In the (basic) infosec for journalists class that I teach, this has always been a sticking point and now there is a (not perfect but really great) solution. ๐
