2) Guardian/Observer on strike The strikes by our friends at the Guardian to save the papers begin tomorrow morning (Wednesday) and freelances are asked to do all they can to help. The journalists are fighting to stop the group selling off the profitable Observer Sunday operation to the loss-making Tortoise Media website, which they see as a threat to all their futures. The vote to strike was 93 per cent, on a 75 per cent turn-out for a postal ballot-- an incredibly high majority by union standards. They will be on strike for four days -- Wednesday and Thursday December 4-5 this week and December 11-12 next week. So please, if you can avoid doing so, do not produce or deliver any words or pictures for the Guardian or Observer on December 4, 5, 11 or 12. Do not contact them, nor log in or look at the website. But if you can, visit the picket lines. There will be a rally with a good crowd outside the Kings Cross office at 11am tomorrow, Wednesday.
