Wow, VMWare is free (for home use) now...that's pretty rad. I think I'll give it a try.

A reminder: a TikTok ban is still dumb, bad, and fundamentally aligned with pro-authoritarian, anti-free speech impulses.

Also unlikely to survive the courts...so it's quite a circus.

I don't really have strong opinions on the Apple anti-trust lawsuit.

I have a vague feeling it's going to be a tough case to win, but perhaps if the DOJ does, it will mean good things for right to repair and open standards...or perhaps it won't change a lot

    that's about it #apple #antitrust

I thought it was bizarre when the Democrats started to pick up the TikTok ban, because that was Trump's shtick.

And now Trump says he doesn't want to ban TikTok, though only because he would rather censor Meta. Broken clock right twice a day and all that.

Still, so silly. How about just don't ban either of them.

You’ve probably heard about The New York Times lawsuit against OpenAI. But the details are impressive: The NY Times provided 100 exhibits of ChatGPT completing articles almost word for word, and the suit seeks the deletion of all GPT models.

Could it succeed, and what would be the consequences? I spoke with general counsel Cecilia Ziniti and Techdirt editor @mmasnick about its chances.

The rise of the Fediverse is only accelerating as companies like Mozilla and WordPress make moves to support it. Even Meta is rumored to be working on a decentralized social network.

But there's one particular start-up that seems determined to go its own way.

I spoke with @tchambers and @evan about what's driving the Fediverse migration - and the obstacles that can thwart some would-be users.
