@blaise Perhaps you've already seen it, but according to this CBC report, the government is "actively looking at potential alternatives to the U.S.-built F-35 stealth fighter and will hold conversations with rival aircraft makers." Also according to the article, the government has already paid for the first 16 F-35s, and I don't know what would happen if we cancelled the order. (I'm assuming it would not be refunded.)

I agree completely that we can no longer trust American-made weapons systems, and have to look at alternatives.

@mekkaokereke @starsider I was only vaguely aware of Musk until the whole episode of his attempt at being the hero of the cave rescue in Thailand.

Up until then, I'd recognized him as an arrogant blowhard, a type I have damned little respect for at the best of times, but baseless pedo accusations because his pet idea was dismissed by actual experts (because it was useless, and obviously so) certainly made his deeply fragile completely clear.

@_dm @mmasnick I'm terribly sorry, but I must inform you that «elderly man with a poor memory» is exclusively reserved for referring to Joe Biden. —The editorial boards of the NY Times, Washington Post, etc.

@inthehands I know it took me a while (too long, I'm sure) to realize this, but after I did I would consciously try to convert these "can't you just X" questions into something like "Can you help me understand why X is hard or inappropriate?"

I also started saying "You know, 'Just' is a four letter word" when others would use it in the dismissive sense.

@evanprodromou I have to admit I'm in the camp of those who are deeply suspicious of Meta, but I'm interested to hear what you're going to say. I don't see any follow ups? Did I miss them somehow or am I just too impatient?
