    @feld I wanted to use rustwarden.

    They lack a decent process for how to run it outside docker though. I'd rather not nest containers and compiling rust on ARM really sucks. Their "official" solutions seems to be to extract the binaries from the docker image manually, which is frankly ridiculous

    @hj I used KeePass (not XC tho) + syncthing before, but didn't really work well when i can switch between my pc, phone and tablet pretty rapidly and/or have the file open on both locations

    @ignaloidas @lanodan My bank charges 40 NOK (3-4 EUR) for a EUR-based SEPA payment assuming equally split costs with receiver.

    65 NOK for other transfers (Which mine usually are, since I'm not maintaining a dedicated account with EUR in it). And 150 NOK (~13 EUR) if I want to cover fees for the other person as well. Usually some other unexpected cost pops up in the middle as well just to make the day worse. Not to mention the extra 1-2% I often have to pay for on-the-fly currency conversion

    @ignaloidas @lanodan As a Norwegian the only thing I know about IBAN numbers is that whenever I have to send money to one it costs me like 20 EUR to cover all the fees

    @lanodan I'd say that overall Wise is closer to a bank than it is to PayPal. They even have psuedo savings accounts called interest accounts (They're most likely called that because they don't properly fill the legal definition of a savings account)

    @lanodan Yes. A phone is only required for SMS 2FA. (Which I swapped to Aegis later)

    I set the whole thing up via a web browser on my computer, besides the SMS codes (and using my phone to take a pic of my passport)

    @lanodan Wise is IBAN compatible. People can send me Euros via an IBAN number and BIC. And I can send to IBAN numbers directly.

    It does work kinda like a bank and paypal in one

    @lanodan Wise also isn't a real bank.

    They're more of a paypal thing. So if the other person is on Wise they can just send you the money by your E-mail address or phone number. They were called TransferWise initially and I think their model was to out-price companies like western union. The bank-like and card features were slapped on afterwards afaik

    @lanodan I think Wise lets you send someone a URL requesting Euros and they can pay you however they want. afaik the sender can chose if they want to do a bank transfer or use a debit card or something.

    Not too sure, only signed up and started playing with them today, because it was only today I noticed their cards were available in Norway

    Also a number of more niche things (like when someone helped me get a Steam Deck) would've been a lot easier and cheaper if i could just send pre-converted Euros to an EU bank account. Rather than sending NOK which incurred both overpaid conversion rates and slightly higher transfer fees

    I've also been jealous of how banks in other countries just let people make new virtual cards and stuff willy-nilly. pretty much no banks in norway have such features.
