Ordered some stuff online from a chemist/pharmacy (actual high street shop) and it's just arrived with a picture postcard included, showing the inside of a completely ordinary chemist shop and signed by the person who packed it with a hand drawn smiley face.

Routes like this through woodland would sometimes have the trees felled on both sides to some depth, to deny robbers & brigands cover; The area here to the right *might* be a remnant of that practice I suppose?
