This was such a wonderful video from @jeremyjojola@threads.net about the unique Spanish dialect in Colorado and New Mexico. Interesting and very moving.
@ayoub I've had a theory that some people are anti-Ukrainian in the West because they see elites they don't like being supportive of Ukraine. Being against Ukraine aid becomes a means of pushing back. Some ARE pro-Russian but I think many see those in power being so pro-Ukrainian and therefore, the must be against Ukraine. I bet that some on the right don't care that much about Ukraine but they see it as an issue they can ride to power. What do you think?
#Bookmaking on Labor Day! Still working through "Handmade Books At Home" by Chanel Ly. This is a soft- cover travel journal that combines French link stitch and glue. Love that it lays flat and the stiching looks elegant. Still don't like gluing as much and her instructions can be obtuse. Still, nice to try some new techniques and practice old ones (and doing work for me!)
@RickiTarr@ozofriendly@Shin Completely agree! I was surprised how much it grew on me. And the genre tropes helped hide clues that were in plain sight. But honestly, I could have done without the 80's erotic thriller that was "Danner's Fire" but the rest were awesome. I was so sad that it was cancelled.
@sofiav Yeah! Strangely enough, I have not seen the film (though I like Terry Gilliam a lot). We were just looking for something a bit lighter and sillier. It was created in part by Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who are pretty funny in the show. Feels like Doctor Who with a slight edge created by slightly odd individuals.
@sofiav I lived in India when Koo became big for a time. People were trumpeting it as India's next big tech thing. But it became a haven for the BJP and Modi-Bakhts. Twitter is still surprisingly big there because its used by all the elites. Essentially it helped me understand that Twitter is basically a bunch of elites having conversations with themselves. That's why it is such a big deal among the media-political-entertainment complex.
In the second season of "The Afterparty" on Apple TV, they made fun of this by having two characters play intense matches of Connect Four. Made me laugh so hard.
@agnes In my experience, good vegan Mexican is hard to find. I can think of two in Chicago. One is "Penelope's Vegan Taqueria" and I don't like much. It's a vegan place that happens to be Mexican, not a Mexican vegan place (does that make any sense)? The other is "Quesadilla La Reina Del Sol" and I go back and forth about whether I actually like it or not. My rule of thumb is usually go twice before judging but this place has stumped my rule.
Does anyone have this book but are not using it, and would like to gift or sell it? A Taste of Browns by Greg Brown (who had Browns cafes/patisseries in Melbourne).
I used to have it, and gave it away quite a while ago. I deeply regret it now, the book has some very very special recipes in it.
Love to hear from you if you have a copy. I'd even settle for a photocopy.
@BlockClubCh@block-club-chicago-BlockClubCh That doesn't surprise me at all. I'm 100% reliant on the CTA and it can be bad, ESPECIALLY on the weekends. It is functionally useless on the weekends.
