Now I'm trying to find a general #email replacement. I think I've narrowed it down to @fastmail and @mailbox_org. I also like @startmail but it has no calendar.

#Fastmail seems to just work well and has practically unlimited aliases accounts. But MB seems more committed to #privacy / data protection, has online office, and is about half the price per month of the other. Both have some cloud storage, which is a plus.

I'm not really sure which one to go with. Any thoughts?

Continued Email search - looked at @protonprivacy and @Tutanota and while their privacy credentials are impeccable, I felt there were too many usability compromises. I think I've settled on #Posteo as my secure #email. It is from #Germany, strongly committed to #privacy, VERY reasonably priced (€1 / month), can be used with @thunderbird, and the company is one of the most ecologically conscious companies I've ever seen. Worth exploring!

@camelliakyoto Funnily enough, I went to my local cafe on campus and they did indeed have matcha. The staff member told me to hold off until next week because they are getting a much better matcha in stock. So I'll wait and have a good cup.

It is a bit of an odd obsssion. One thing I respect from the founder of Mastodon is that he seems to practice patience and not get too caught up such stuff. Even the encouragement of Threads integration felt more focused on popularizing Activity Pub. I think the best Fedi projects are the ones that seem themselves building something for the long term. The whole Fediverse as a marathon and not a sprint. And we are all running together.

@agnes Sigh...and this is why we can't have nice things.... I really like Pixelfed. I'm curious - given the decentralized nature of the Fediverse, would you consider using an instance not overseen by him? Or would the whole project be suspect?

Cleaning out my email and going through messages from college. I've realized just how many direct emails from friends I left unanswered. It makes me sad. Today's lesson: if someone reaches out to you, please make sure to respond.

I have to say that the Daily Show using the hymn "Jerusalem" as the music for their "The Second Coming of Donald Trump" title card is pretty inspired for the moment we are all in here. A beautiful hymn but one often associated with a certain strain of nostalgic Little-Englander nationalism.

@qxoko @compfu The novels are AMAZING. Real landmarks in western fantasy fiction. They are a Taoist-inspired fantasy world set in an archipelago world where most of the characters are not white. And it the first novel was written in the late 1960s! But beyond these, the novels are well-written with a lot of philosophical depth.

@compfu I've been avoiding it but I've heard horrible thing about "Tales from Earthsea." Avoiding it because the books are perfect and, after reading about the changes made, I just can't bring myself to do it.

@jennylam I bought something from them for my wife. One of the spammiest sites I've ever used. Giving me another good reason to close the account.

BTW - do you happen to know if there are still copies of your zine at the Chicago Cultural Center? I've been trying to get over there after work but haven't had the chance yet.

Thanks for the heads up! I am checking out Mailbox and Posteo now as my general email. I signed up for Tuta and I like it. I may use them over Proton. I am really disliking how aggressive Proton wants me to upgrade.
