@compfu I've been avoiding it but I've heard horrible thing about "Tales from Earthsea." Avoiding it because the books are perfect and, after reading about the changes made, I just can't bring myself to do it.

@compfu @seanbala they're Ursula K. Le Guin's incredible novels and Goro Miyazaki absolutely butchered them 😔
I watched the film when I was young and thought it was fine. I watched it again as an adult after reading the novels and switched it off fifteen minutes in.
edit: I should say I almost never switch off a film

@qxoko @compfu The novels are AMAZING. Real landmarks in western fantasy fiction. They are a Taoist-inspired fantasy world set in an archipelago world where most of the characters are not white. And it the first novel was written in the late 1960s! But beyond these, the novels are well-written with a lot of philosophical depth.

@seanbala I have seen Earthsea because it was on Netflix, but to be honest I don't remember a single thing about it except that the thumbnail had a big dragon on it. Are the books it's based on a manga series or are they actual novels?
