I don't know if you are using Substack on a device but I have mine on my android tablet. I also use Duck Duck Go's tracker block on the tablet that stops tracker requests. Substack is BY FAR the most intrusive app I have. Sometimes it pings my tablet over a hundred times a day. Even when it is not open. It is orders of magnatude more intrusive than the next noisiest app. I have started following Substacks on Feedly so I get the stuff but bypass the site and app.
I never win anything - until now! I won a copy of "Halfway to Better" by @susankayequinn from her podcast "Bright Green Futures" - a must listen for anyone into fiction, solarpunk, hopepunk, climate fiction, and other similar works! I read one of her fantastic short stories in "Solarpunk Magazine" a few issues ago, and I am exicited to read more!
Like those commercials for all those paternalistic charities say - "And for your donation just of $1 a day, you can help a poor child suffering from too much horrific convenience and ease of living."
We also are toiling away in our 15 minute city, blissfully unaware of the joys of car dependence.
@johnbloorprintmaker@BeAware I really like Pixelfed. I've never had an Instagram account so I have no baseline to compare. From what my wife says, Instagram sounds like pretty bad place.
I use Mastodon as my home base in the Fediverse but I love curating my nice photographs on Pixelfed. I follow good artists and photographers from Mastodon on Pixelfed so I don't miss them in the firehose that can be Mastodon's chronological timeline.
@lunaticatlarge@Vivaldi I think the browser itself is open source. It is the interface that is not. That is because they do a lot of unique things to make it so insanely customizable. The Vivaldi team has been very open about it and I appreciate their candor. I think they have earned my trust until I'm proven otherwise. I'll take the four-fifths of a loaf rather than seeking out the perfect thing.
I said that based on a quick glance of the article. I thought it sounded funny - LOL.
I was more familiar with her from Sondheim's musical "Assassins" where she is portrayed as a frustrated housewife but whose motives for doing the assassination attempt were unclear. It's a pretty funny play if you have never encountered it. It takes place at a carnival where all the assassins successful and unsuccessful interact and discuss their American dream.
@liztai Actually, President Gerald Ford had two attempts within a few weeks of each other when he was running in 1976. Both were women. One was a devotee of Charles Manson and the other was a radical accountant.
@Deus@SRDas This makes me really sad. I kind of feel the same way as @Deus. I would love to visit but with all of this, I feel bad causing more of a fuss.
Question: What are your thoughts about Standard Notes?
Been thinking of giving it a try because I'm looking for something simple and with good cross platform support. I've been using OneNote but find it to be overkill. Obsidian is also fussy, and Joplin doesn't like iOS.
What is giving me pause is primarily subscription fatigue. Is it really worth the cost? Is it any better than using Simple Note (beyond privacy concerns).
