There are people that I have never met, and don’t know how I’m connected to them, that Facebook has suggested as friends so many times that I recognize them more than people I actually know. This future is weird.

@thomasfuchs Agreed. And for edge cases, seeing both ends of a cable almost always told the story and ambiguous ports like a DB-25 on a machine were clearly labelled.

@thomasfuchs I completely agree with your premise, but have you encountered random things that use an s-video or ps-2 style connector for power or communication in a seemingly arbitrary way? I have a few times and it’s always a surprise. Maybe there’s another standard for that connector I’m not aware of?

FWIW, the dumb algo has reconnected me with folks I haven’t seen online in years. For me it’s a net benefit.

@thomasfuchs @film_girl If you can live with switching video inputs, a simple USB switch can make the keyboard & mouse sharing easier. I use this one and it’s been rock solid for me, but there are some cheaper options on Amazon. https://a.co/d/58NoOqm
